Replying to @jbendery
Marsha Blackburn says one of her concerns with this TN appeals court nominee, Andre Mathis, is his "rap sheet" including 3 speeding tickets 10+ years ago.
One was for 5mph over the speed limit.
Durbin: "If speeding tickets are a rap sheet, I've got one too."

Only black people have a rap sheet for going a few miles over the speed limit.

(81,566 posts)GOP senator flashes congressional pin after car was pulled over by Capitol Police, sources say
By Manu Raju, CNN Chief Congressional Correspondent
As senators bolted from the chamber after the week's final vote to catch their afternoon flights, the Tennessee Republican hopped in a waiting car along with an aide and made her way down Constitution Avenue. But the car was pulled over by US Capitol Police.
Blackburn then jumped out of the car, identified herself as a senator and showed the officer her congressional pin, according to a text message and a source familiar with the matter. The officer then let the car go.
US Capitol Police says it has no record of the incident, yet the senator's office later confirmed the account and said it was the police asking for her identification. Her office said she was a passenger when the car was pulled over.
While minor traffic infractions are common for many Americans, legal experts say senators using the power of their office to get off the hook for a ticket could either run afoul of Senate ethics rules -- or at least create the appearance of impropriety.

Blackburn did not disclose line of credit on South Carolina house, records show
Joel Ebert | The Tennessean
U.S. Rep. Marsha Blackburn did not disclose taking out a $100,000 line of credit from a bank last year to cover the costs to repair a house she co-owns in South Carolina, according to her most recent financial disclosures.
And since buying the house in 2014, Blackburn has frequently failed to pay property taxes for the home on time, resulting in thousands of dollars in penalties, according to South Carolina property records.
On her latest House financial disclosure, Blackburn, who is the Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate, did not disclose her involvement with Down Yonder Properties LLC a company which owns a four-bedroom, three-bathroom home in Daufuske Island, South Carolina.
In 2008, Blackburn said an audit of her campaign finances found more than $400,000 in incorrectly reported or unreported donations, dating back to her run for Congress in 2002, according to The Tennesseans archives. She later revised her campaign reports.

(24,436 posts)that would disqualify practically everybody. Don't tell me that Brett Kavanaugh or Amy Coney Barrett or Neil Gorsuch never had any speeding tickets. Kavanaugh probably even has skeletons we never got to find out about because a real background check wasn't even done.

If Blackburn knew, she'd probably consider me an ex-con.

(33,378 posts)Blackburn has one goal: obstruct Biden's nominees.
She needs to say words in doing so, so she uses whatever she can find to Ad Hominem them. It could have been anything: he looked at a white woman once, he sat in the front seat of the bus. Whatever works.
The GQP only argues in Bad Faith. They have no principles except Power.

(3,360 posts)Gerow apparently drove for several miles with the motorcycle stuck to the front of his car, according to a witness. In a statement through a spokesperson, Gerow said he did not cause the accident and he was not injured.
A highway construction worker told Spotlight PA/The Philadelphia Inquirer that he was working on the turnpike's eastbound lanes Wednesday night when he saw a Mercedes pass by with a motorcycle wedged into its grill.
It was a big motorcycle, too," Forgette said. "There were a bunch of sparks. And it was very loud.
