I'm sure any of Tlaib's opponents will try to exploit any anti-semetic comments she's made.

It'll be an interesting primary. I think the general election will be a shoo-in for the Dem.

in state prisons and local jails, and for sure the bad conditions and abuses are overwhelmingly state and local. There can't be many in state prisons who wouldn't be glad to transfer to federal conditions if they only could. Including Michigan's own; there are plenty of problems at home to deal with.

But, where would those convicted and sentenced for breaking federal laws be incarcerated? I have trouble believing this is a serious proposal. She may just be throwing anti-establishment propaganda to her "grassroots" donors.

From Tlaib's official website:

Detroit Metro Times: Rep. Tlaib supports BREATHE Act, includes defunding police, reparations, universal basic income

Two members of "the Squad" have thrown their support behind wide-ranging legislation that would address many of the demands of the massive nationwide Black Lives Matter protests that followed the death of George Floyd under Minneapolis police.

snip=============================================================================

The bill is broken into four sections. The first calls for divesting from police agencies like the DEA and ICE, banning surveillance technology, ending civil asset forfeiture, ending life sentences and mandatory minimum sentences, closing federal prisons, and decriminalizing and retroactively expunging both state and federal drug offenses, among others.

The second section calls for incentives for states to shrink or close detention facilities, removing police from schools, abolishing police gang databases, eliminating court fees and forgiving all court debts, repealing all juvenile offenses, and creating new intervention programs that would send specialists other than police to respond to 911 calls, among others.

The third section calls for social equity in communities, including equitable funding for all schools, closing youth detention centers, developing school curricula critical of colonialism, more wraparound services for students, promoting environmental justice, providing safe access to water, creating pilot programs for universal basic income, providing access to education for undocumented immigrants, and modernizing all public schools, among others.

The fourth section calls for reparations for those incarcerated including enfranchisement to vote, creating a public financing program for campaigns powered by small dollar contributions, incentivizing states to increase voter turnout, allowing undocumented immigrants to vote in local and state elections, and holding officials and police officers accountable, among others.

should and can be done if we have the power, and thus are on Democrats' to-do list, tied up with others that cannot and will not be, or at very least not at the same time. For the sake of those who send her money and presumably believe in some of these goals, I hope this is at least about more than an excuse for voting against Democratic reform packages.

Oh, well. I was happy to see the Bureau of Prisons is about to get a new, Biden-appointed director to work on the reforms Biden campaigned for.

She won that special election over the republican 87% to 9%.

It's really not a valid comparison to make since Jones was on two ballots the same day.

The Justice Democrats are really not true members of the party and want to destroy and remake the party in their own image. I love it when they call me a "corporate democrat" and tell me that they need my money to remake the party into their own image

I am glad that one of their members is being primaried. I also loved it when Nina Turner was primaried last year.

status quo corporate Democrats/Wall Street/Big Pharma/Big Oil/corporate PACs/billionaires/corporate/corporate/corporate. Key word is "corporate."

Corruption! The bad status quo neoliberal corporate Democrats will stop at nothing to thwart Justice Democrats, the only moral, pure, uncorrupted grassroots transformative nice people who want the nice progressive things for America! In solidarity, please give us three dollars to take over the very very bad corporate status quo Democratic Establishment.

Does anybody still fall for that? It's hilarious.
