I've been told incoming AG @JasonMiyaresVA just FIRED the entire civil rights division in the Attorney General's office. My bill helped create and expand the authority that this division uses.
This whole campaign we had to listen to @JasonMiyaresVA whining about local prosecutors choosing not to prosecute certain crimes- then he gets elected and eliminates an entire division dedicated to enforcing civil rights law. Total hypocrisy and it needs to be SEEN.
I promise all of you the Virginia Senate Democrats will respond with ACTION whenever the new Governor, Attorney General or anyone else tries to roll back our progress!
Already hearing that the AG-elect is claiming its just some of the office- and says it will still exist. In what form?
We are not going to be gaslit by PR statements- this is the peoples AG office and we all deserve full transparency on what happened today.

(11,519 posts)For many years overt racism wasn't ok, and while some have said that they're glad racists are now showing us who they are I don't see that as a good thing. Before 45* made it ok to be openly racist again most of them stayed under their rocks, now that they're out in the open with they're hatred again they're influencing more and more people with their bullshit. It's going to take many many years to but this genie back in the bottle.

(3,325 posts)You made your bed and now you have to live in it!! ZERO thoughts and prayers for you Brownshirts!! It was plain as day what was coming for you in the campaign. You ignorants fell for the GQP CRT and other the sky is falling red herrings.
Hopefully the rest of America can see this and NOT follow your path!! However, thanks for the foreshadowing.

(57,504 posts)You can't blame every election loss on cheating by the opponent. Youngkin ran a better race than Terry McAuliffe.
This is probably going to get my post alerted on, but maybe, just maybe, McAuliffe didn't run that good of a campaign. Further, as has been said elsewhere, he made a huge gaffe in the form of a comment about education.
Youngkin ran a better campaign, and he won. If you want to win, you'll need higher turnout. If people stay home, count on losing, every last time.
Thank you.

(4,386 posts)He is looking to for a 2024 nomination, and that is why if they cheated, it mattered so much. They will control VA which voted for Biden. He looked at DT and said I can do a better job conning people. He is a piece of garbage and must be stopped.

(57,504 posts)I suspect that when you say "Charlottesville," you are referring to the events of August 2017. Those days were an exception to the rule.
The people who were put on trial for the actions they carried out when they came to Charlottesville from somewhere else, maybe even where you live, were judged by the people who live in Charlottesville and possibly the surrounding Albemarle County, the year around.
Perhaps you can refresh your memory as to what those verdicts were.
Happy New Year.

(7,510 posts)Attorney Gen.-elect Jason Miyares notified about 30 staff members in the office - 17 of them attorneys - that they won't have jobs in his administration, including the lawyer who was investigating dangerous conditions as a south Richmond apartment complex in Richmond's largest Latino neighborhood.
Miyares, a Republican, will be sworn in on Saturday to replace Democratic Attorney General Mark Herring, whom Miyares defeated in the November election.
Miyares spokeswoman Victoria LaCivita said the 30 staff members were told that Miyares would be moving in a different direction.
"During the campaign, it was made clear that now Attorney General-elect Miyares and Attorney General Herring have very different visions for the office," she said by email for this story. "We are restructuring the office, as every incoming AG has done in the past."
She declined to provide the breakdown of which divisions the attorneys work in, saying it was multiple divisions across the office.

(2,032 posts)That is what they want us to think so we dont turn out. President Biden needs support to achieve his goals, and a few seats in the Senate would sure be a game changer.

(1,910 posts)Suburban parents may poll as progressives, its easy to answer a pollster. But in reality they voted in the VA election because they were told their white kids are being taught they are bad, their daughters would all lose to teams loaded with trans kids, and they still cringe if they see 2 guys kiss in a Hallmark movie.
They did not bother to see if anything was accurate. The suburbs are not as progressive as we would like to think they are.

I said this in another post. Mid terms are typically low in numbers and we lose seats and governorships. We can't let that happen this year. There is so much at stake
