One of my ancestors fled famine in Finland for Sweden, then emigrated to the New Sweden colony that was in parts of modern Pennsylvania and Delaware. He lived to be 100 - a real accomplishment in the mid-1600s. He was referred to in records as ‘Old Martin Martensen’ - the ‘Swedified’ version of his Finnish name. I’m confident he didn’t miss the arduous, brutish conditions of his youth.
