Their entire purpose was the same as today's Republikan party - to suppress the vote of nonwhite, protestant, male people.

They had over 6 million members in the 1920s and marched in Washington DC openly. It sort of put things in perspective for me. Their aims are the same, but they don't have the nerve to wear the sheets openly.
