I am always careful about parking away from

other vehicles in a parking lot even if I have to walk much further, so today I went to micheals in a shopping center and parked way out away from anybody and my girl stayed in the car while I ran in, while in the store she called my phone and informed me that a shopping cart had slammed into my car so I go out to see and sure enough the wind had pushed it about 70 yards across a parking lot and slammed it. Dented the hell outta my 2018 car.
It was a petsmart cart from 3 businesses up.
I took pictures and went and talked to the petsmart manager and he took my information etc..
In reading the internet it looks like its one of those tough shit things that you have no recourse from rogue shopping carts.
Beware of the shopping carts when parking..

soon as I'd unloaded my cart and turned to finish putting things in my car the wind blew
the cart 20 to 30 feet away. I was fortunate since it wound up hung up in a cart
parking rack, missing some expensive cars on the way. I'm very careful these days
since even a mild breeze will push a cart along.

Thankfully the last 20 years where at a store on a hill sloping into the building. As I arrived early each day I had my choice of spaces and I picked a spot at the top of the hill with a small island uphill from my space.

Today I was parked almost at the bottom of the inclined parking lot, I never really thought about a shopping cart crashing my vehicle.
I learned a lesson today though.

I drive a couple of old work vans and backing out I could run someone over. My newest vehicle is 9 years old with over 250,000 miles so new dings aren’t a problem. I carry PL/PD and self insure.

8. Somewhere near the front door, stores post a small sign that says

... they aren't responsible for stuff happening to YOUR car. I don't know for sure if PetSmart has this sign, but I see it just about everywhere. (When I look for it that is.)

When it's a mall parking lot, the individual stores don't post a sign because the mall does it for them. Basically we're all out of luck because they don't take any responsibility. If you want to you can claim it on your car insurance, but I never have.

For Damage Caused by Carts". Went outside, sure enough there was the sign. So I put a sign on my car, "Not Responsible for Damage Caused br Car" and then proceeded to run over every fucking cart in the lot.

Okay I didn't but thought it would be a great comedy bit.

11. Not totally on point, but related. In early 1976 I was working at an FM radio station.

My normal shift was nights, but the afternoon guy was sick, so I was doing his shift. There had been an ice storm the night before, and the 600 foot tower that loomed over the building was totally iced over.

As temperatures began to rise, ice began to fall from the tower and land on the studio roof with resounding BOOMS. After a while I stopped talking, because whenever I keyed the microphone, ice would fall. Finally, the program director asked for my car keys so he could move my car.

After twenty minutes he returned, handed me my keys, and said, “I’ve got good news and bad news.” I asked for the good news, and he said they had moved my car. The bad news was that a chunk of ice had fallen on it before they moved it. The roof was caved in, and the station refused to turn it into their insurance because it was “an act of God.”

If people wouldn’t leave carts all over maybe there would be fewer dings.

that if you park your vehicle anywhere near the cart return area, the carts will never get close to your vehicle.

I even go so far as to put carts into the return area if they're hanging around waiting to smash into my wife's car.

Do you know if there's a correlation between leaving your cart in an open area to be wind blown into someone else's vehicle and dumping a bag full of dirty diapers and fast food crap in parking lots?

I am very sorry for your car being hit by a wind blown errant shopping cart. That really sucks.

17. Sends me over the edge, too! There are numerous corrals in parking lots to safely leave them

Yet I see people just leaving them in parking spots all the time when they'd only have to go a few steps! I once hit a sign in my supermarket parking lot when I was puling out, trying to avoid a cart that was rolling towards me! The wind gets them rolling and they're only stopped when they hit parked cars...

There should be one of these monitors in every parking lot:

Hate when people leaves grocery carts in parking lot? Cart Narcs will get them...
