First, please understand that I did not join DU in order to post a GoFundMe page. I joined at 5:20 am on January 15, and at 10:30 am the same morning, a hit-and-run driver killed 12-year-old Immaculee Goldade (and injured the friend she was with). Immaculee was the daughter of a family who are friends of my local relatives.
Immaculee's aunt has set up a GoFundMe for the family's funeral expenses: https://gofund.me/10a2f787
The sadness was almost too much for Sgt. Moss, who walked away from the camera. The Pierce County Sheriffs Department spokesman needed a moment to collect himself.
"So officers arrived on scene and found two juvenile females," said Sgt. Moss. "One of them was deceased. The other one was rushed to the hospital right away. We checked the area for a vehicle."
Investigators believe the vehicle, a large pickup truck, took off. They found this image on a neighbors surveillance video. They believe the truck was damaged from the collision.

(116 posts)I hope the story gets enough coverage that someone who knows the driver sees the photo of the truck.

Such a cute little girl. Her entire future wiped out by some ignorant POS with absolutely no sense of honor or responsibility.
Although the go-fund-me has blown past the initial goal I still donated. The money is little consolation for losing your daughter.

(86,822 posts)That's a bigger than two ton straight bed, Fuck that asshole, the driver, for not stopping and dealing with what they had done. Just goes to show how many ethically challenged people we have in this country.
And where was this? Washington?

(116 posts)The oddness of stealing a truck that size makes me wonder if he was just up for any kind of mayhem, and in his search for something to smash, he changed his mind and decided to run it into the girls instead.
I was at the candlelight vigil tonight. According to Kathleen (the girl who survived), neither of them knew what hit them. Immaculee died instantly. Kathleen said they were walking and talking, and the next thing she knew, she was riding in an ambulance. (This information came from Immaculee's father.)

It's possible that it is a random guy.

(116 posts)The Pierce County Sheriff's Department is offering a $1,000 reward for information on the suspect, but I don't know why his photos have not gone viral. I tried to do my part on social media, but I have a small list of followers. There has been overwhelming support and sympathy for the family, but no one seems to care if he's caught.
On the other hand, investigators have not released specifics about the owner of the stolen truck. Speculation is that the owner might be covering for someone.
I want to try to contact the aunt who set up the family's GoFundMe page. It's already over $43,000. I want to ask her what she thinks of a fund set up to hire a social media expert to get the suspect's photos spread far and wide.
I'll definitely post updates if I learn anything substantial.

(116 posts)The Pierce County Sheriff's Department said SWAT surrounded a house where they located the suspect and he surrendered without incident just before 6 a.m.
...
The man was booked into the Pierce County Jail for vehicular homicide, vehicular assault, felony hit and run death, hit and run injury, possession of stolen property, unlawful possession of a firearm and second-degree burglary.

(116 posts)I'm not going to post any identifying info on DU, but what I found was through mainstream local news reporting, and the suspect's own public social media posts.
The MAGA: a post doubting the legitimacy of Biden's win.
The criminal: "your dumb or just get rid of anything that can prove where something came from thats always my first move I have had so many pawn shops look and me and he like where is the vin? Id be like idk other people dont ask for vins I dont understand haha"
The above quote is the suspect replying to someone who, on that other person's own social media, posted this a month ago: "Who buys Catalytic converters please help"

(51,308 posts)Well, the owner wasn't involved at least. Glad they caught the creep.

Investigators believe the truck was going 39 mph when it struck the two girls who were walking on the shoulder of 104th.
Kohl admitted to investigators that he was driving the vehicle when it struck the two girls, according to the documents. Kohl told them that he woke up right after the collision when the truck jostled.
