Honestly, the denial is astonishing.

(3,300 posts)Actually two things:
1. Antivaxxers (active on social media at least) are far more likely to be weird-evangelical, by which I mean with extreme and non-conventional religious beliefs that they see as "Christian" (like fervent belief in Trump and also hatred of immigrants)
2. No matter what happens, they praise their god and never blame him.
So this guy will no doubt go into nothingness absolutely believing it's heaven.
It's almost comical, how they "assemble their prayer warriors" to urge God to heal this patient, and then when God fails or refuses or doesn't notice, and the guy dies in agony, they piously say, "God granted him the ultimate healing!"
Oh, and "God must have needed another angle."
(That's how they often spell 'angel'.)
God can literally do no wrong as far as they're concerned. I never see anyone ever questioning their faith in this arbitrary and/or cruel and/or useless god.

(13,871 posts)The answer is always No, so I ask them why they think God will protect them from the virus, but they need a gun to protect them from other threats.
Get some interesting but bizarre answers.

(24,294 posts)have a sincere desire to kill someone and want to be equipped to do it if they can do it legally. George Zimmerman and Kyle Rittenhouse are examples of this. They both killed unarmed people that they could have walked away from. They carried their guns because they wanted to kill someone.

A lot of sociopaths are waiting with bated breath for tfg
And the right wing sociopath autocrats who ignore the law give them permission to murder without consequences.

It's sick, but we've seen it before (Spanish conquistadors come to mind).

(26,263 posts)Sorryantivaxxers seems to have slowed down in their postings but the Herman Cain site is roaring away - I follow it on Facebook.
These people seem to think they can 'command' a virus to leave a body. Judas Freaking PRIEST they are deluded. The so called prayer warriors might be a psychological benefit but they don't impact the actual disease process.
I disagree with the people who go on to troll the social media sites of these antivaxxers, but admit I'd love to ask them how they feel that their prayers never seem to be answered in the affirmative.

It's a fungible religion. They've got an answer for everything - and in cases
where they can't come up with anything, the solemnly say "...because it's a broken world."

(28,795 posts)is beg for prayers until the person dies, then they post hallelujah because gawd called so and so home and the suffering is over. they pivot from fervently wanting to live (or wanting their loved one to live) to celebrating the same person's death. I call it a pivot. and you know "gawd don't make mistakes"

Not sorry -we have a member at DU who has been told that potential surgery for Ovarian Cancer is not critical - because of all of these asswipes taking up space in hospitals.
I will zip lip / sit on hands - as anything else I write will be cruel.

(26,263 posts)And his family is equally irresponsible. As someone who lost a good friend and almost lost a brother to Covid, my sympathy well is pretty dry.
Not to mention my recent Omicron scare, despite being ultra careful when I venture out.

I dont get this, at all.
I think that it is normal to express anger at the selfishness of people not getting vaccinated and spreading misinformation, but celebrating the suffering is not a good thing. I completely understand the emotion. We are all tired of this pandemic, we may all know of people who have died or have been severely affected. We may have had it ourselves and are struggling with the effects. We naturally want to lash out at people who defiantly continue to spread the virus and misinformation. I agree however, that most of those people who are hospitalized are also victims but are too blind to see that.

(11,810 posts)...to believe and propagate a horrible, horrible lie. I have an aunt who is the same way. She got COVID, nearly died, but then swore had it not been for TFG promoting Hydroxychloriquin, she wouldn't be alive. The problem with that is she was never given Hydroxychloriquin. It's sad to me.

(11,738 posts)The best con artists, operate emotionally. You can't really "hook" someone rationally. You can convince them, but then what you said has to be accurate and the predictions need to pan out. When you hook someone emotionally, they basically give themselves over to you.
I have relatives who are the same way, and they accuse me or "your side" of being the ones who are brainwashed.
Truly sad.

(26,263 posts)He was sick enough to be admitted to the hospital and was being treated for Covid when he posted it. He is now on a vent. One would think just being HOSITALIZED and having to be on oxygen (which he was) would be enough to perhaps convince someone they should have been vented.

But, seriously, there are a number of self posted videos, out there, of people in the Covid unit, describing what they are going through. It's scary. (I guess I consider the Covid unit to be an ICU unit.) And people posting updates until they no longer can.
