Just Had Our Renewal Appointments For Med Pot - Updated

Last edited Tue Jan 18, 2022, 03:44 PM - Edit history (1)

Both by phone, because the video chat wasn't connecting.
Both appointments took a total of 12 minutes!
In Illinois, card renewal needs a doctor appointment every 3 years, but now that's just a phone call away!
Costs $550 for both us, total. But, the dispensaries charge 15% less with a med card. So, this $550 will pay for itself in about 12 weeks.
So simple, it's like we pushed the easy button.

Update: Already approved! So, they call to collect the state fee. It's only $75 each, not $125 because we're 65.
So, now we come in at a 10 week payback.

Here in Delaware, I get my oncologist to sign a form once a year and pay $50. Not a bad deal Walleye Jan 2022 #1

recreational users have a medical card also. Some dispensaries let you go to the front of the line with the medical card.

We did medical for several years until AZ legalized recreational use. We have one foot in California and the other in Arizona, and our CA med certification enjoyed reciprocity in AZ. Now all the states where we mostly visit are legal. It boggles my mind that people still get arrested for cannabis possession in the US, while I can go to my neighborhood dispensary and buy it legally, or buy some clones and grow my own if I wish.

But, med card holders get 15% off. So, with $450 sunk cost, we'll recoup the money by early April.
15% off for 3 years runs into pretty big savings over time.
That's why we did it.
Cards expired in September, so for 4 months we've been buying recreational. Took me a few months to adjust to the sticker shock.

until a month after it was expired. OK MMJ said I could buy with written verification I had been approved but no one would sell to me. Cost of card=$350 Cost of minor ER visit because I didn't have anxiety meds and was sure I was having a stroke= $2800
Lesson learned. Lay in a 6 month supply and apply 3 months early.

I'm told they don't issue a new card now.
They send a letter (email). Once that's printed, it's good, with the old card for buying off the med menu. That letter is a provisional 90 day. So, if it takes them 3 months to issue final approval, we're good starting tomorrow.
Then, there was something about a second letter, and I didn't catch that fully. I should have asked her to repeat it.
Guess we will see.
