Apparently 8 billion humans straining the planet's ecosystems into the largest mass extinction in 65 million years isn't enough for Elon.

He's just a guy who holds a ton of overvalued stock.

(32,783 posts)If I was supreme ruler of the world I'd implement a global one child policy until we get back to around 1 billion. Too many people ruins things for all.

(15,243 posts)Is it 1 billion? 2 billion? Hard to know. It all depends on what can be done about impact per person. The best approach combines both lowering population and per-person environmental impact at the same time.
One thing is fairly certain: We can't raise standards of living for everyone if a high standard of living equates to anything close to the current environmental impact of individual Americans. The planet would be completely ruined already if everyone on the planet had been living like that up until now.

Sometimes I wonder if he has a medical problem with his brain. He's obviously intelligent about some things, but says breathtakingly stupid things about others. For someone who is apparently aware of environmental problems, this is one of the latter.

(23,959 posts)IMCO, the moon is where we should be looking. We should be focused on establishing lunar bases, orbital superscalar construction platforms, and tritium extraction. The moon has the resources we need and the low-g environment to prepare for the next steps of intra- and (eventually) inter-stellar exploration and travel.
WTF would we even do on Mars at this point?

(61,919 posts)Musk is pointing to fertility rates rates in the industrialized world, especially countries like Japan. He is projecting those numbers on humanity as a whole.
Then again, Musk is parroting a central canard of replacement theory.

(58 posts)He hast to look at the first world nations as an example Third World nations an developing nations have a mortality rate of about 35 look at the countries in Africa or India or Afghanistan theyre literally going thru a famine and starving to death its a struggle to get past 35 in those countries so he has to look at the first world countries as an example of fertility when people got too much time on their hands they dont populate thats why in Africa when theyre fighting for their survival they they have very large families because one kid might only survive out of 10
