(12,422 posts)If the candidate commits a crime, yes he or she could be arrested. However, it would be a scary precedent , unless the evidence is overwhelming. From a political perspective, it would appear as if the authority that arrested him or her was preventing a candidate from challenging an incumbent candidate. What would stop an incumbent president from inventing charges against a serious challenger. Trump tried to have Ukraine announce an investigation of Bidens activities, even though there was no evidence of a crime. If some local US authority charged a presidential candidate, the evidence would have to be obvious and overwhelming, but even then would give rise to the charge that the arrest was politically motivated.
