“The Court may look the other way, but I cannot.”

Justice Sonia Sotomayor expressed outrage at her conservative Supreme Court colleagues Thursday afternoon, after the six right wing jurists went one step further in attacking the constitutional guarantee of abortion.

Voting 6-3 against a women’s health care provider the Court denied a request by Texas Women’s Health, which provides abortion services, to change jurisdictions, which according to Justice Sotomayor the Court should have done.

the answer, IMO, Biden better make haste with changes to the courts. Unfortunately, once the present make up of the USSC overturns Roe as a constitutional right it will be incredibly difficult, if not impossible for at least another decade to pass legislation that is even close to being what is afforded to women under Roe.

There are some on DU who have been against abolishing the filibuster and were pleased with the vote. However, how is Biden going to make judicial changes/additions without changing the filibuster rules? In the very least it will require a carve out of the filibuster, but to some, including some on DU, any kind of change to the filibuster is too risky.

Just by executive fiat?

Last night’s vote makes clear that it can’t happen.

Worth remembering that Manchin is anti-choice. An abortion decision like this isn’t going to make a carve out more likely.
