Real Time with Bill Maher guests - Friday, January 21, 2022 (Season Premiere)

Real Time with Bill Maher debuts its 20th season Friday, January 21 (10:00-11:00 p.m. live ET/tape-delayed PT), with a replay at 12:01 a.m., exclusively on HBO.

This week features a one-on-one interview with Timothy Snyder, professor of history at Yale University and author of On Tyranny Graphic Edition: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century.

This week's in-studio panel discussion will include Bari Weiss, editor of the newsletter Common Sense on Substack and host of the podcast Honestly; and Rep. Ritchie Torres, Democratic Congressman representing New York's 15th district who, at 25 years old, became New York City's youngest elected official and the first Afro-Latino, LGBTQ member of Congress.

he's been harder and harder to watch, and I'm a long time fan. I don't really care about his Solar Panel dilemma, but sometimes his New Rules are really good.

that's why I robotically clicked on this thread. But no more. He's bitter as hell and he's crossed the line too many times. The final final straw was when he said Americans (liberals/blacks/etc) don't have the right to complain because folks in other countries have it much harder. Huh?

He was pissed when trump was inaugerated on his birthday. Haven't watched in a while. Depends on the guest.

Jerry Seinfeld and John Oliver on the internal logic of comedy, that you'll do anything for a laugh:

JS: "I don't know what I'm saying."

JO: "There is a sequence of words that you knew had a laugh at the end of them, so you said them."

JS: "That's it, you've just described my entire brain."

About being offended, "The problem with any joke":

It will likely be likely as exciting as the people screeching about him, and probably Weiss. Thankfully, we will be regaled with thoughtful commentary and discussions and not platitudes about why they don't watch him anymore or why Weiss is a Zionist shill.

And it's been awhile that he's had a serious RWer - and when he did, there was Malcolm Nance to put him in his place! That was probably more satisfying than having guests who all agree...

I remember she was there after the massacre in Pittsburgh, where she grew up and this was her synagogue.

Ritchie Torres is really interesting. A better representative of NY lower class than AOC.

And Maher, of course, will not have enough time to cover everything that happened since he left.

Thanks, again, for posting this.

But I agree with you that there's not nearly enough time to catch up on the avalanche of news and issues that we've experienced since his last show. Yikes!

One good point about HBO is you don't have to fast forward through all the dumb ass commercials.
