Huh, this is a new one. SB1442, by Sen. Shane Jett, would bar public schools from using federal, state, or private funds to promote concepts of social emotional learning. Here's how the bill defines "social emotional learning." #okleg #oklaed

Here's more info on social and emotional learning (SEL) via the Oklahoma State Department of Education.

Or am I reading this wrong. Seems like a lot of gobbledygook to me, I know they have something in mind. Why don’t they just come out and say it?

3. It's geared toward all students. They don't want kids to be taught emotional wellbeing.

Hard to be a worker drone, or right-wing warrior if you have confidence in yourself or empathy for others

The Five Social Emotional Learning Competencies

According to the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL), an organization devoted to students and educators to help achieve positive outcomes for PreK-12 students, SEL involves five core competencies that can be applied in both the classroom, at home, and in students’ communities. These five core competencies are:

Self-awareness – To recognize your emotions and how they impact your behavior; acknowledging your strengths and weaknesses to better gain confidence in your abilities.

Self-management – To take control and ownership of your thoughts, emotions, and actions in various situations, as well as setting and working toward goals.

Social awareness – The ability to put yourself in the shoes of another person who may be from a different background or culture from the one you grew up with. To act with empathy and in an ethical manner within your home, school, and community.

Relationship skills – The ability to build and maintain healthy relationships with people from a diverse range of backgrounds. This competency focuses on listening to and being able to communicate with others, peacefully resolving conflict, and knowing when to ask for or offer help.

Making responsible decisions – Choosing how to act or respond to a situation based on learned behaviors such as ethics, safety, weighing consequences and the well-being of others, as well as yourself.

We had to get our social emotional learning from rock ‘n’ roll and black-and-white sitcoms.

disclaimer = i am not pandering rw talking points, merely describing how these demented persons "feel." and to them, onlt THEIR feelingf are omportant .....

"Because those are the responsibility of the child's parents, not the state. SEL is just another avenue they are trying to use to teach your child that they are part of a "collective"....

6. What caught my eye was Resilience

THAT is a no-go?! They're all over the TV these days with the mental health ads trying to teach resilience, as well as trying to teach it to the troops, etc. And yet, in the one place where it could be taught and learned most easily is the one place it's trying to be outlawed?! Man, have I lived too long!

I also really blew it with my degree. I went for a degree in Psych as others were going for a MBA. I figured there'd be all these MBAs and a dearth in those who work with real human issues. I just never figured we'd throw humans out the door completely! We're now completing that action by tossing them to the four winds, beaten, flogged, and burnt out.

And we wonder why suicide rates are so high? Egads, get a clue!

The rich kids will go to private schools, religous schools will dominate, a few will be able to afford private tutors and homeschool, most won't. It's the SOS as usual from OK, they want total control of the women who will forced to take up the slack at home.

That's apparently the role model to shoot for. And they will relish how those who meet the Trumpian standard abuse those who don't.
