How much is democracy under threat? Where would you be willing to compromise to save it?

Is it an existential threat?

Would you be willing to work with Republicans with similar worries about our democracy?

Would you be willing to change Party leadership, if both Parties agreed to change? Is that a bridge too far for you?

If you were convinced that the radical Trump-cult fascists out-numbered both Democrats and traditional Republicans standing alone, would you join traditional Republicans to save our democracy?

I am slowly coming to the conclusion that Democrats and Republicans will have to join together to fight this threat or we will not survive as a democracy. The Trump cult are not Republicans. They have no ideology except Trump. They are not conservatives. Their intent is to destroy our democracy.

Or would you prefer to die and go down with the ship if that was your only choice?

I fight them for it because they are against it. Unlike what party leaders say, we are the LEFT because our opponents are the RIGHT. That’s right. Our OPPONENTS.

Democracy is ALL ABOUT people compromising with others to achieve what common goals they have. And by far most people want and need the same things.

Those who see compromise as failure or even corrupt -- instead of an imperfect but highly desirable goal -- are not suited to democracy and are drawn by anti-democratic leaders who promise to find ways to defeat majorities.

For example, there are many Republican women that believe in abortion rights. In the most recent poll, only 30 percent agreed with the Supreme Court decision. 59% supported abortion rights. We should not mistake elected Republicans for America.

Already begun to strip away women's rights, they are absolutely Crushing us on banishing the 2nd amendment and they are so far off course on monetary policy that I don't see how we could come together to protect democracy. We are correct and they are incorrect. It doesn't get more simple than that. I've already seen many posts here that the country we know and love is already dead. Best case is to find an island somewhere that we could create a 100% democracy tailor made to our virtues and values

is that there are zero trustworthy ones left, at least in government.

They are either unwilling to break with their party on anything, full-on crazy people, or 100% steeped in the idea that everyone outside of their party is an evil child-killer.

Are there any with worries? I honestly don't think so. They just want to be on the team that runs everything after the plan comes to fruition.

The republicans who were worried have already defected.

relatives and people in my town tend to be Q-anon MAGATs.

Again, I suspect that the sane ones have left the party already.

My hope is that in 2022, we'll find that there really are more sane people than not and we'll manage to hold the house and gain in the Senate. The candidates who are likely to win Republican primaries are, well, terrifying.

The only other compromise I'd make is to be willing to do whatever is necessary to stop the attacks on democracy, no matter how distasteful. That would include some horrific shit done to eliminate those who are working to destroy it.

I'll add that I may have sugar coated it with the use of the word "horrific".

I save paper for the serious stuff.

Seriously. 99.999% of the Internet "We'll Go To War!" is just "We'll post harder to social media than ever! I have not yet begun to tweet!"

It will be fierce. Marked by the infamous Battle of Folgers where grounds was given due to faulty equipment, and the general was forced to fall back to Fort Starbucks, where he met with Los Admirales Baristas to form new battle plans.

People are still afraid to go to a grocery store, and anything at all significant is going to happen any time soon?

Why are we like this, weavers of such courageous fantasy in a social construction known for comfortable indifference.
