Campaigning for trump v our movement

Somebody with a lot of organizing experience once told me that campaigns endure or fail based on whether they are organized around candidates or movements.

We’ve all worked on campaigns and hopefully some of you have had the experience that I’ve enjoyed of networks enduring beyond the candidate himself or herself. Some of us have been part of movements organized to solve problems and have seen those networks endure or dissolve.

Trumpists are organized behind a venal criminal. The chances that his popular network will endure are slight in my view. He has shown much more durability than I ever could’ve imagined though so I’m not willing to dismiss him. He’s particularly got a nose for power and how to muscle people into compliance with him in a very disgusting way.

Still, movements for justice have so much more inherent strength. The people have the power. Don’t take the bait when they try to divide us. I feel fairly sure things will go better for everyone.

I was was disappointed as anybody about the terrible truth that voting rights failed. I’m not underestimating how desperately bad that is. We have to be able to win house and senate seats to pass voting rights. State by state, county by county, we are going to show up and we are going to win.
