House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) announced Tuesday that she is running for reelection, citing the “crucial” need to defend American democracy through legislation on voting rights and other issues.

Pelosi, 81, has served in Congress since 1987.

“While we have made progress, much more needs to be done to improve people’s lives,” Pelosi said in a video posted to her Twitter feed. “Our democracy is at risk because of assaults on the truth, the assault on the U.S. Capitol, and the state-by-state assault on voting rights. This election is crucial. Nothing less is at stake than our democracy.”

She added: “But as we say, we don’t agonize, we organize. And that is why I am running for reelection to Congress and respectfully seek your support. I would be greatly honored by it and grateful for it.”

to meet the grave emergency that was created. And that's only gotten worse and worse.

We've lost some very special people to age whom we really need with us, and who no doubt would have chosen to be if only they could. But at least we are extremely fortunate in her. Apparently she's still very high energy and her mind still clicking along like a machine.

Pelosi would never leave her House in such dire straights, for another to have to deal with.
She will leave a behind a tidy house when passing along her gavel.

This is going to raise hackles, I fear, because of Pelosi's former promise to step down at the end of this Congress.

Stay tuned. But I expect more than a few heads exploding.

Btw, I love Pelosi, think she's the best Speaker we've had during very troubled times. But she's going to catch considerable fire over this announcement.

she wouldn't tell anyone. The moment she does, she becomes a lame duck, and her ability to raise money will be diminished in an election year where we'll need everything we can possibly get.
