Joe Biden just now on Facebook

"The person I nominate to replace Justice Breyer will be someone with extraordinary qualifications. Character, experience, and integrity.

And they will be the first Black woman nominated to the United States Supreme Court."

that would be good cuz then Biden gets to replace her vacancy. However, I wonder whether Kamala is being considered. Then Biden can select another person to be VP. (Don't slam me I love Kamala). According to the polls the support of Ds is very low in the Hispanic community, so maybe a Hispanic to pull votes during the 2024 election??? Maybe Biden is thinking that a female politician can't be elected in this next election cycle, not because she's female but because of the issues created by the Rs. If Biden doesn't run again we could assume that whoever his VP is will get the D nomination, and the selection of a VP running mate (since Kamala went to the USSC) it will mean two new faces that the Rs have to campaign against. It will take some wind out of their sails.

The right is talking this up simply because they want to create this narrative of division between Biden and Harris and that Biden wants to replace her as VP.

It's based on nothing.

And it's also absolutely silly. We need Kamala right where she is. Also, replacing her as vice president would be a huge headache that neither Biden or the country needs right now.*

Personally, I'm pretty excited about all of the women who are believed to be on Biden's short list, after what I've read and heard about them since the news if Breyer's retirement came down. Take a look: https://www.cnn.com/2022/01/26/politics/shortlist-breyer-replacement-supreme-court/index.html

*Biden’s selection to replace Harris would have to be approved by a majority of both houses of congress, which of course would be a breeze.

How about Anita Hill?

Just as an amends and for the prospect of making Clarence Thomas very uncomfortable...

(Disclaimer: I do not know enough about the courts to know who the actual candidates would be...)

Only in his early 70s. Unfortunately he’s got awhile to go, and plenty of time to do more damage before he’s outta there.

Somehow I thought he was older.

It was roundly shot down already.
#1 She'd probably not accept because she hates Biden
#2 She's a political conservative, so why would we want her
#3 There are several qualified Black women, already on the federal bench, all of whom would be better choices

Edit to add: While I was typing this, another post on the same subject came up today, and it's more of the same.

I missed that conversation yesterday, so this is really helpful. I also agree with every one of these points.

Most journals have articles listing a short number of eminent and eminently qualified black candidates but pointing out there are also many less well known who might well be on the short list Biden must have been carrying around.

A couple of very impressive supposed "frontrunners" on all of them are Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson of the DC court of appeals and Justice Leondra Kruger of the CA supreme court.

At 65, although her career in academia and as an advocate for women's issues is very distinguished, Anita Hill would be older than most feel desirable. Thomas I think was 43 when he was nominated. Judge Jackson is 51, Justice Kruger 45.
