Denver children's museum temporarily closing over mask enforcement struggles
The Childrens Museum of Denver at Marsico Campus announced this week it would be closing its doors to the public through Feb. 4 so its staff could bolster its policies. The decision came after the museum had guests object to its mask policy and became angry with staff.
The museum carefully follows public health guidelines, including mask wearing. We know the stress of the last two years has taken a toll on everyone in our community, but regrettably, some guests who object to the Museums mask policy have been inappropriately directing their anger toward our staff, said the museum in a statement.
The city of Denver is currently under a mask mandate thats in effect until Feb. 3. It requires anyone over the age of 2 to wear a face covering in all indoor public spaces. Facilities must require face coverings for all indoor spaces or choose to operate a fully vaccinated facility and verify proof of full vaccination before people are allowed entry.
The museums CEO Michael Yankovich told The Washington Post that they cant reveal details about the specific incidents that lead to the museums closure, but described them as demoralizing, and said theyve become increasingly intense and frequent.
