...the youngest candidate. Clarence Thomas has been on the SCOTUS for over 30 years now and he's still only 73.
Obama tried to compromise be selecting Merrick Garland, who was already in his 60s. We need to do what the Rethugs do and pick someone near 40 who has lots of longevity in their family. All of the candidates Biden is considering will make reasonable decisions on the issues, but the final selection should be someone who can do it for as many decades as possible.

But selecting someone based on youth and longevity so they might still be on the court in 50 years is really a dumb way to pick justices.
I'm starting to think that if we're going to keep life tenure, the minimum age should be 50.

The power held by justices and the stakes to our nation in these appointments are huge.
The Republicans adhere to no principles, but they have biiig goals, and tRump's appointments were chosen by Christian nationalists and ultrawealthy RW donors to serve them. If the only ones who would agree to that were in their 80s, we'd have 3 new octogenarians on.
Even less so Democrats. We do have principles to base our nation's judicial structure on, after all -- huge, very strong and noble principles and beliefs that government exists to serve the people. And for that we need justices with very fine legal minds, great integrity, and liberal judicial temperaments.
Fortunately, we have a lot of very good people, and only those who are made the first cut, I'm sure.
