Oklahoma SB 1470 (to be introduced next week) would prohibit K-12 teachers from "promoting" any position "that is in opposition to closely held religious beliefs of students."

Violators are on the hook for a minimum of $10k.

Suppose a biology teacher says "The theory of evolution is true and modern humans did, in fact, evolve from other species." Permitted? I can't see how.

We want the right organization to get credit for what they do! Love their campaigns!

https://thesatanictemple.com/pages/church-of-satan-vs-satanic-temple

The Satanic Temple has become the primary religious Satanic organization in the world, with chapters internationally, and a number of high-profile public campaigns designed to preserve and advance secularism and individual liberties. The rise of The Satanic Temple has been met with an increase in commentary regarding what Satanism is as media outlets struggle to grasp how this upstart religion has begun to shift religious liberty debates with mere claims of equal access.

With unfortunate regularity, The Satanic Temple is confused with an earlier organization, the Church of Satan, founded by Anton Szandor LaVey in the 1960s, to the apparent chagrin of both. The Church of Satan expresses vehement opposition to the campaigns and activities of The Satanic Temple, asserting themselves as the only “true” arbiters of Satanism, while The Satanic Temple dismisses the Church of Satan as irrelevant and inactive.

I live in okie land...a money choice, and believe me there are a lot of bible thumpers here that would luv a handmaids tale type of existence. I work with such people and they have learned not to bother me with their religious bs....I am not real polite about letting them know. For a state that likes to say how independent it’s people are they sure have lots of “rules” to control people who aren’t of the right religious or political “tribe”.

If their preacher or trump doesn’t say it’s alright then they are just plain confused....😎

Like that "love your neighbors" stuff that didn't just mean your "white Evangelical Christian" neighbors, but yourJewish, Asian, Black, Muslim, poor, gay, atheist, even your, God forbid (and this is so hard to swallow) white Evangelical Christian neighbors? Because that's what Jesus taught.

and will a 6-3 SCOTUS uphold that?

The persecuted Christian Majority see their opportunity. It's a feeding frenzy of regressive lawmaking.

It's not a contest.

Closely held religious beliefs? Baptist? First Baptist? Southern Baptist? Free Baptist? First Free Baptist? First Free Will Baptist?

Jewish? Catholic?

Their beliefs are so closely held they can't tolerate anyone deviating from their beliefs even for a second. Because they're not secure in their beliefs? Because they're so easily swayed? If they had actual faith in their beliefs, they wouldn't try to ban all other ideas.

Fearful and small.

"that is in opposition to closely held religious beliefs of PARENTS."

I remember the fundies wanting the 10 commandments in every school because children lacked the basic fundamentals of rules and laws.

The 10 commandments would teach the children all these wonderful laws to obey or god would be mad.

Now here's the thing: They don't believe in the 10 commandments just another way to impose their bs on everyone else.

1. You shall have no other God’s before me. (They think trump is lord emperor, they make posters to this effect)

2. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven images. (See #1)

3. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain. (I believe I've heard such utterances)

4. Remember the Sabbath day and keep it Holy. (Yeah golfing, toking guns around, pretty holy)

5. Honor your father and mother. (not likely)

6. Thou shalt not kill. — (Well we ALL know how they feel about this)

7. Thou shalt not commit adultery. (Well just look at their marriages, a lot of fornicating going on)

8. Thou shalt not steal. (Elections, money from government programs, taxes, etc etc)

9. Thou shall not bear false witness. (Every time they open their mouths)

10. You shall not covet. (Well they definitely have an affinity for coveting, mistresses, money, guns, underage kids, the list goes on and on)

Let's hope smarter heads prevail.
