"SNIP......

“A new bill in the Utah Legislature would give parents the authorization to sue schools or education officials for any perceived infringement of their rights as a parent,” the Salt Lake Tribune reports.

“The bill appears to create a legal free-for-all in which a parent to file a lawsuit and seek monetary damages if they feel any aspect of their child’s education steps on their rights as a parent or if they find it objectionable.”

We’ll see you in court!

This will boost applications to law schools through the roof. It will also prompt an exodus of teachers to neighboring states in droves.

…as anything other than useful tools to use in their arguments, that is, this would never even been a topic of discussion, let alone a proposal for a law.

is it to be limited to knowledge? What if the parent objects to his/her child learning that the continent of Africa exists? We're going to need a lot more courthouses and judges.

It seems like a recipe for destroying public education in Utah. Maybe that's the goal.

By putting forward extreme bills like this one, they will force Democrats to go on record as voting against it. Then in the next election, they can claim in their ads that their Democratic opponent "opposes parents' rights in their children's education." I wouldn't be surprised if we see more proposals like this in other states in the coming months.

Because you are going to have to do that this goes into effect.
Ready to pay for that?
And it you are not - don't stand in the door the second it takes effect.

What teacher would want to work in a state that does this?
Hell, why would anyone even go into teaching as a career?

That should be balanced by teachers being able to sue any parent for sending their kids to school unprepared to learn.

the 60's.

It was interesting.

Isn't this the 2nd state that is trying to do this? It's totally insane. They will have an empty school.
