https://apnews.com/article/us-supreme-court-health-crime-florida-8e46f1eb96f8e6bf2554045cee31b6e3TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) Florida Republicans on Wednesday rejected a move to create exemptions for rape, incest and human trafficking in their proposal to ban abortions after 15 weeks, advancing the bill to tighten access to the procedure.
The Senate Health Policy Committee, which is controlled by Republicans, blocked the amendment from Democratic Sen. Lauren Book and then passed the bill on a party lines vote.
We have to give these survivors a little grace, Book said before her amendment failed. If a girl or a woman does not want to carry a pregnancy to term because she did not consent to being raped, none of the members of this committee should be able to deny her a safe a legal abortion because she needed more time.
Sen. Kelli Stargel, a Republican who sponsored the bill, noted that her proposal was not an all-out ban on abortion and said allowing such exemptions would give criminals more room to hide sexual crimes.
I think this amendment does nothing to solve the problems that we all agree are awful rape, human trafficking, incest and I will partner with you to fight these crimes and I will partner with you to take the people who are doing that to these children to the furthest extent of the law, she said. But I dont think allowing those individuals to continue to hide their crimes by forcing the abortions or allowing those abortions are going to solve that problem.
*snip*
So that's their new angle? Victims must have the baby to fight crime.

(90,767 posts)Abortion in no way prevents prosecution of rapists.
These pieces of shit want to blame rape victims at every turn and then want to claim that forcing the victims of rape to give birth somehow serves justice?
Fuck these people.

Rape is a violent crime. Maybe boys and men should learn NOT TO RAPE. Terminating a pregnancy is not "hiding a crime."
Women aren't "hiding a crime" if they choose to terminate a very much unwanted rape pregnancy. A woman surviving rape has no crime to hide.
No one is forcing anyone to abort. That's the thing. Roe doesn't force anyone terminate their pregnancy. Those who view pregnancy by rape as a gift from god can have as many babies as they choose. If Kelli Stargell survives her rape and wants that unintended pregnancy, she is free to CHOOSE to parent her rapist's baby. She is not, however, able to decide for anyone else. She controls her own uterus, not mine.
Roe ended back alley, coat hanger abortions that resulted in dead women. Ending Roe will create more dead women.
Even more frightening, Stargell is conflating abortion with rape and incest, and now sex trafficking. The Christo-fascist White nationalists want to lump the victim in with the rapists.
Why a woman chooses not to carry her pregnancy to term is irrelevant. There doesn't need to be a violent assault or some taboo. As a woman who had a heart attack at 24, with a condition "typically fatal in labor and delivery," I faced the very real possibility of dying in childbirth. Birth control works well, but not 100% of the time. I opted out of abstinence. The Zealots would sentence me to death. Hard pass.
If impotent men can take play god and take viagra to bring their Johnsons back from the dead like Lazarus, then women can decide for themselves whether to have a child or not.
rant over.

(9,952 posts)of their demand is clear for all. We have courts all over not penalizing men convicted of rape, worried about their future and their own experiences. We had a Republican just recently telling women to embrace the pregnancy of rape.
This is the issue. They cannot forbid abortion then have exemptions or it is all about simply punishing women and girls for having sex. If it is murder, then it is with rape, and that is one them.
