Former Vice President Mike Pence called out his former boss by name on Friday, saying that "President (Donald) Trump is wrong" in claiming that Pence had the right to overturn the 2020 election on January 6, 2021.
Pence warned against conservatives who continue to insist the vice president can alter an election, and said it could be a problematic position for Republicans in the next presidential contest.
"Under the Constitution, I had no right to change the outcome of our election..."

(11,014 posts)It won't last. He eventually did the correct thing on Jan 6, but not before he went to Dan Quayle and a dozen others looking for answers.
I want to give him the benefit of doubt, but I can't. I just can't. Took him over a year to denounce it. Shame on him.

Pence told the Federalist Society that he didn't have the authority to overturn the results. He just affirmed the facts. The article makes it sound as if he did something heroic.
The assumption that Trump will stop trying to litigate this and overturn the results is also presumptive. As if Pence coming out and meekly saying something to a room full of people that probably want Trump out of the way too (because he is mask off), would actually change anything. Trump isn't going to stop. He'll very predictably go after Pence, and anyone else who actually admits the reality.
NOW, if Pence testifies (truthfully) that Trump asked him to overturn the election illegally, then I will admit that Pence did something mildly heroic.

Pence is gearing up to run for President. We do not need a weasel (and I apologize to weasels for the comparison) like him anywhere near the White House again.

(11,738 posts)You do have to wonder though, why these people chose to do something so stupid at the behest of a man who has ABSOLUTELY NO LOYALTY to anyone but himself. Like literally, I think Trump would throw anyone, including Ivanka, under the bus to save his skin. He is without any redeeming qualities.
These people put themselves out for a total scumbag.

(14,752 posts)Only the grim reaper will put an end to tfg's lies. But of course, the lies will carry on without him.
Pence's statement is mildly symbolic, but what he needs to do is attack tfg personally.
If he said "Let's face a truth. No matter what you think about the actions of congress, the laws passed, and the impact on the court's direction, everyone MUST realize he is personally corrupt, mentally deficient, mortally bereft, a traitor to the USA and an embarrassment to our allies; and probably the worst sitting president the us ever saw (bar none)."
Then he might have started an end. But what he said was meaningless.

Oh, never mind, were talking about idiot morons called republicans.

(6,806 posts)If he only listened to Trump he would have done it. Instead he listened to Dan Quayle and my guess is possibly other Republicans who were being realistic and responsible about how extremely radical and dangerous to democracy Trump was being. And is.
Do we agree with Pence on policy or issues? No. But it does take courage, both Personal and political to stand up to Trump because he is so awful. He will extort, smear, threaten, and attack anyone who stands up to him. And on this very important single point, Pence did. On this one point every single American who understands and truly values American democracy needs to have Pence's back.
Do we think he waited too long,? Maybe. But he finally fucking did it. So I'll give him a handclap on this one very important stand, spoken loud and clear.
