(12,160 posts)I always worked weekends at times -- when I was behind on an inflexible deadline, or when we had a software upgrade that had to take place on a weekend. But when it becomes a habit, or an expectation, that you're going to work six or seven days a week, personal life and relationships pay the price.
Burnout kills productivity (and, sometimes, workers). The best organizations know this and encourage employees to have a healthy work-life balance.

I know this is completely anecdotal on my part, but I've been working in the corporate world since 1987, and this has absolutely been a consistent observation of mine across that entire period.
So when the media started describing those on the lower rungs of the ladder as "essential workers" as we got into the pandemic, my attitude was along the lines of, "Welcome to the party!"
