Mailed in Illinois, delivered here on West Coast Feb. 8.
Someone in the Senate is holding up confirmation of Biden's most recent nomination to the USPS Board of Governors.
DeJoy can't be fired until all members are confirmed, and the Board can vote to do so.
What are the odds that it's Cruz holding it up?

(13,571 posts)For my daughter here, and it contained a $100 gift card.
We assumed someone had nabbed it somewhere along the line, having been told there was a gift card inside. Probably not the best way to send it.

(13,571 posts)The Board of Governors has to do it.
Biden has cleaned out and replaced Trump holdovers as their terms expired.
The last appointment is being held up by someone in Senate.

The president is in charge of enforcing the law
Arrest him for deliberately slowing the mail

Are you sure you're in the right place?

(9,656 posts)The felony for slowing mail was in place long before repubs dreamed up this board to neuter the president
I will just ignore the insult

(13,571 posts)I suggest you go read the federal laws and regulations regarding the Board of Governors and the Postmaster General.

WHITEHOUSE CALLS FOR CONFIRMATION OF USPS BOARD OF GOVERNORS NOMINEES TO ADDRESS MAJOR OPERATIONAL PROBLEMS UNDER POSTMASTER GENERAL DEJOY
Washington, D.C. U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) today called for speedy approval of the two pending nominees to the United States Postal Service (USPS) Board of Governors, citing an urgent need for a change in leadership at the agency. Whitehouses call comes after a new report that the EPA and the White House Council on Environmental Quality have warned USPS that its plan to replace its massive fleet with thousands of polluting gas-powered delivery vehicles does not comply with the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act. The USPS fleet makes up about one third of all government vehicles.
The Postal Service urgently needs a change in leadership, said Whitehouse. Under Postmaster General DeJoy, the Postal Service is actively choosing to ignore science and the law in order to make sure one of the worlds largest fleets of government vehicles continues to be a major source of pollution. Postmaster General DeJoy has messed around with our mail system for too long and hes caused real harm to the Americans who rely on it. This cannot continue.
The nine-seat USPS Board of Governors has the sole authority to remove the Postmaster General, who was appointed by the previous administration. President Biden put forth two nominees in November, but they have not yet been confirmed, leaving the Board under the control of a Republican-appointed Chair.

(32,028 posts)What about the three Biden appointments that are already there? Who voted for the new DeJoy supporting Chairman? And one of the two Biden nominees awaiting a hearing is a Republican. The math is not there.

(13,571 posts)By law, the Board may not have more than five members appointed by one political party.
By law, a complete board is nine members.
By law, Biden could not fire DeJoy.
The most he could do is fill the Board seats, which then must be confirmed by the Senate. And then the completed, confirmed Board could vote to fire DeJoy.
And Senator Whitehouse says TWO of the nominees have not yet been confirmed.
Nor have nominees for many State Department posts been confirmed. But that's a whole other story and the buck stops with Ted Cruz.
I suggest that you go to the link I posted, and read the rules and laws.

(32,028 posts)Either a D or R Senator has the hold. If it was Cruz then Schumer could call for a cloture vote which only requires 51 votes. Then the nominations could be moved to the floor and since it is a presidential appointment it would only require 51 votes. If it is a D Senator then Schumer is respecting an ally's wishes. It is probably a D Senator.

(16,928 posts)The USPS has been having problems for years, long before the past MIS-ADMINISTRATION. We must admit that.
However, the appointment of DeJoy and his 'mission' was terrible timing. Was it to 'improve' postal service - or was it to just F**K with the mail-in voting?
And his own arrogance has done nothing to win any support for him either. Just based on THAT I'd kick his A$$ out!!!!
We DO need him gone - if for no other reason it would be his arrogance regarding what his mission is and who he is serving -and we DO need a Board of Governors that can act in a non-political way that can and will provide a necessary postal SERVICE - something that is so basically fundamental and essential to our country.
Among all of the things Joe has to fix, yeah, this is one of them!

(13,571 posts)But some Senator is holding up confirmation of his last appointee to the Postal Board of Governors, and ONLY that Board can fire him.
