VACAVILLE, Calif. (TND) Students at an elementary school in California can soon expect to see chocolate milk back on the menu following their successful protest.
There was a bit of an uproar after it was discovered the popular drink was being taken off the menu at Sierra Vista K-8 school in Vacaville. The school had reportedly banned the drink due to its high sugar content.
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) says there are 25 grams of sugar in one cup of chocolate milk. That's almost double the amount of sugar present in a cup of 1% milk, according to the same source.
Students in one of the schools' fourth-grade classes decided to step up and protest, according to KCRA News.

(4,585 posts)I taught elementary school for 27 years, and the lunch tray carries nothing but high fructose corn syrup. Throw in a choco milk, which contains more sugar than a can of Coke, and you've got kids returning from lunch definitely not in top form to learn.
