Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-NC) warned officials in North Carolina that they could face "dangerous" consequences if he is removed from the ballot for his role in inciting a failed insurrection on Jan. 6, 2021.
Cawthorn's opponents have pushed for the congressman to be disqualified by the NC Board of Elections based on an "insurrection" clause that was added to the U.S. Constitution following the Civil War.
"States have long enforced age and residency requirements, without question and with very few if any legal challenges," the Board of Elections wrote in a court filing. "The State has the same authority to police which candidates should or should not be disqualified per Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment."

Hey Cawthorn, I think 146 others of your cell mates should have this thrown at them, also right along with 22 senators....
in fact I think in every state where-by you and your fellow fascist signed that letter to throw out our votes, a citizen should file a lawsuit using the Article and Amendment, then take it to the Federalist Society led John Roberts Supreme Court and watch him and his bunch just completely *(&%#!#*& over the Constitution in real time....maybe they can do a shadow docket ruling and side with traitors ...like you....
Me.

(16,870 posts)First, who an what army are going to bring those "dangerous consequences" and secondly, does he think after the violence people will just go "Ok Madison, you win...you're on the ballot". What a joke

(1,306 posts)More likely than violence will be a huge, collective yawn of indifference while the people check their watch to see how long until the next episode of America's Got Talent.

(22,048 posts)If he tries to stir up any trouble, Cawthorn will discover how little support he actually has.
No matter which side of the political divide one takes, the vast majority of people do not want chaos or instability in our society. His threats of violence are not backed up with an army of followers.

(10,839 posts)should be reason for disqualification. Threatening the Board of Elections?
Not a smart move but in keeping with Cawthorn's non-existent character.
Ugh!

It would lead the way for other citizens in other states.
