Kentucky Senate panel advances ban on transgender athletes

Good thing KY has all their other problems "fixed" ... Welcome to "Culture Wars 2022"

***********

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - A Kentucky Senate committee has advanced a bill to bar transgender girls from participating in school sports that match their gender identity.

The Republican-led Senate Education Committee approved the measure Thursday.

The vote came after committee members heard impassioned pleas from transgender girls and their parents not to take the action.

But its lead sponsor, Sen. Robby Mills, focused on high school athletics. He says it would ensure girls compete against other “biological females.” Opponents say the bill’s restrictions are unconstitutional.

KY is 36th in education, 6th in obesity, 4th in poverty, 44th in income, 21st in literacy, & 47th in life expectancy

Orchestrated attempts by outside wedge issue groups to further divide government and voters?

Methinks yes.

I’ve watched most of the House and Senate hearings on the IN bill and the lies, distortions, and misinformation are gut-churning. A South Dakota state legislator came to testify for it in the House, and a lawyer for a documented anti-LGBT hate group was in the Senate.

I have a very bad feeling that this will pass here.

So how many cases of trans kids playing high school sports do they have in KY?

Like this is a real problem.

….BUT the state high school athletic association already has a policy in place, which everybody has admitted is working JUST FINE.

This is just blind group hate looking for a target — Gay and trans kids who can’t fight back.

Another reason I now live a Republican-free life... Years upon years of dealing with "friends" who tune into Fux Noise 24/7, claiming it's "the only real news" and "the only news that tells the truth." Yet it seems all they do is give us "breaking news" like Obama wearing a tan suit, gay couples daring to hold hands in public, tantrums over the Green M&M's boots and trans people daring to exist.

News? Nope. Just nonstop hate propaganda. And with how they've pretty much lost the war against L's, G's and B's, they're going after the T's with a vengeance. The fact we're even more vulnerable... just brings those psychopaths even more joy.

Fuck Fux Noise. Fuck them for the pain they've caused me and others. Fuck the 24/7 hatred and bigotry.

I hate Fux Noise Nazis.

That may sound shallow, selfish, whatever... But I can no longer relate to these "people" at all. Why? This. Every day. Having a proverbial sign up saying "NUMBER OF DAYS WITHOUT AN ATTACK ON THE TRANS COMMUNITY", and the number is stuck at 0.

Address real issues, like poverty, income, income inequality, health care, education, etc.? Of course not. Why would they do such things? That's what leaders do.... and there are no Republican leaders anymore. There haven't been for a long time.

No. Their idea of "leadership" for years now has been to punch down on "the others", each time claiming they're a threat. OMG! GAYS GETTING MARRIED! OMG! A BLACK PRESIDENT! OMG! THERE ARE WOMEN WHO DON'T WANT TO BE SEXUALLY ASSAULTED! OMG! ABORTION! OMG! TRANS ATHLETES!

How many of the above are actual threats to America? Zero, of course. Unless by "threat", you mean a nation that isn't of white men, by white men, for white men - and no one else need apply.

The sickest part is many of us aren't stupid. None of them care about girls' and women's sports. If it wasn't for Title IX, they wouldn't spend one cent on female sports. They'd give every penny of it to football, men's basketball, and for a few select schools, baseball.

Unconstitutional as hell. But then, we know how Republicans feel about the Constitution ("Goddamn piece of paper" - Dumbya.)

After years of this, I can't even be friends with these people anymore. Why would I? Why would I be friends with people who tell me I'm less of a person, and vote for people to try to make that the law? "But you can't have a pony. And sacrifices must be made!" What do they sacrifice? Why, nothing of course. That's my job, apparently. To be miserable so they "can have theirs."

Fuck Robby Mills. I hate Kentucky Nazis.

Only correction to your post? "Culture Wars 2022"? Hardly. Thanks to people like Robby Mills, it's still 1847 in Kentucky.

11. My 2 cents ... This proposed anti trans young people playing a sport they like and with people ...

... they feel comfortable being around act is just like their CRT (CRT critical race theory) nonsense
in that they are made up "problems" where by they can get "the good Americans" ... aka white
conservatives ... upset about something that should not really effect them at all and if the side
effect of their bigoted actions hurt GLBT people, people of color, educational programs, or just
the idea of being nice to each other so be it. Some of the people pushing this kind of crap enjoy
being mean to other people because it is sticking it "the libs" and that their believe in some kind
of all powerful "Sky God who lives on the clouds with a special plan for their lives" makes 'em
morally superior to the people they hurt. This is just one more wedge issue for the people that
are the wrong side of history so they can try to keep power and stop changes that are coming
no matter what they do to stop it from coming.

Someday in the not too distance future on nice spring day in KY with a beautiful blue sky a trans high
school kid will play a sport with his or her team mates and they will laugh, be friends, and life will go on.

You phrased it differently than me, but, both of us reach the exact same point.

Bills like this are "solutions" to made-up problems - problems that the conservatives themselves are making up in the first place. And the "point" to such bills? To "stick it to the libs", as well as inflict cruelty upon "the others" - the more vulnerable, the better. The cruelty is the point.

All of this is being done to try to create a "Christian" nation (which is funny because none of them act like Christians), and to protect themselves... only themselves. They're offended trans people exist, so... Bills like this. They are hurt that an accurate portrayal of history would reveal themselves and their ancestors to be racist monsters, so... Fight like hell to stop CRT.

And if "others" can be hurt in the process? Even better!

Kids have to be taught to hate. They naturally don't hate. They really don't. When I came out nearly 30 years ago, I had a family that I considered extended family. The adults behaved like savage bigots and made me out to be some sort of sicko freak. The young kids of the family - who were 6 and 7 at the time? They just asked questions. They were curious. They wanted to understand. There was no cruelty behind their questions or attempts to understand. Of course, the last time I spoke to any of them (about 10 years ago), they were bigoted toward me too. But you can thank "the adults in the room" for that.

So, you're absolutely right about that nice day in the not-so-distant future. May that come soon.

As an older straight white guy please trust me that day will be here and the young people will help
in bringing it around but that does not mean in the meantime these asshole will not try to inflict pain
on those who don't need or deserve it.

Trans kids playing sports is just trans people using bathrooms/locker rooms and that is the same as the
fear of gay marriage and that is the same as the fear of brown people coming across the border and
the fear of vaccine mandates which is the fear of flag burning and what about letting blacks and whites
getting married and that is what about my religious free DUMBS or what about the teaching of evolution
or .... Just wedge issues nothing more.

It's hard some days to be doubtful that'll come soon, in large part because some people are working so hard so inflict pain upon innocent people. Though, with more people in this world like you, it'll certainly happen, and I thank you for that.

You're right in that going after trans athletes is just the latest attempt to vilify and look down on "the others", following bathroom rights, marriage rights, CRT, you name it. As I've tried to tell people, I cannot respect the Republican party because I cannot respect any group whose sole purpose in life is to hurt others.

I live my life with a simply philosophy. Don't hurt others, don't judge people who aren't hurting others. Just because someone is different than me doesn't make them "bad" or "lesser". Just because someone does things I don't doesn't make them "wrong". It's simple, and I wish there were more who went through life that way.

I for one am glad you are the same way. Thank you.
