I have a conspiracy theory: Clarence Thomas will resign this year

It’s Friday night and I am in a mood for conspiracy theories. I want to reference back to this if it does happen. I think that moderate, senior Democrats and establishment Republicans are far more concerned about extremism than they are letting on. I think they are trying to calm the left and restore faith in government in general, by undoing the stacking of conservative Supreme Court justices. Even Republican leadership. They see how dangerous eroding trust is in the Supreme Court and the left’s calls for adding justices or changing the court, so two retirements will happen this year. First Breyer and then Thomas. There are a lot of scandalous stories about Thomas coming out. If they can force him to resign, before November, Biden can replace him with a much more moderate voice to appease the left. The court returns to a 5-4 split and Democrats have revenge on the Republicans for their fuckery over the last few Supreme Court nominees. And Biden gets to nominate two justices which is the number Democrats feel they were cheated out of. First with Garland and then with Ginsberg (this theory would say McConnell regrets allowing a vote on Barrett).

That way the court is neutral again or neutral enough, the Supreme Court wrongs on the Democrats are righted sufficiently to calm most down, calls to massively change the court will be muted, and faith is restored in a major part of the government. And after Thomas is gone there will be a clean slate for the future.

Or not, I don’t know.

Republicans have wanted this forever, and they're not going to give it up now. They've demonstrated that they have no honor, integrity, or respect for the rule of law.

They've already been presented with several "come to jesus moments" and have passed on each.

Nope, they're happier than buzzards on a shit wagon right now, so I wouldn't go looking for any atonement for past indiscretions.

Or not, who knows for sure?

Even with the scandal stories coming out it's not like he has to be elected to stay on the court. It's a lifetime appointment. He gets nothing out of resigning .
