That is a sickening thought.

(26,775 posts)Things can still change - but as things currently stand, the question will be how much we lose by, not whether.

(490 posts)It's just sickening to acknowledge that so many Americans would willing vote to install the complete shitshow that we all know would be the result of Reps winning the house.

(24,446 posts)but low turnout on our side is always a problems during midterms when we hold the WH. Hopefully that dynamic changes and/or the Republican base is not as energized this year and/or a bunch of Trumpians win primaries.
Mad_Machine76
(24,446 posts)although Republicans gained in the 2002 midterms (in the midst of 9/11, ramp up to Iraq). We haven't gained seats at any point during midterms when we've held the WH since Clinton. Of course, this year might present some unique dynamics.

(10,927 posts)Traditionallly, that would be true - the whole idea that the president's opposing party wins the mid year. But this time the GOP has gone off the deep end, they are running the craziest candidates possible. IMO, many conservatives will stay away this fall because they only have loony choices.

(12,682 posts)Those silly Dems, they aren't the real heros of society. Real heros are small businessmen or well off philanthropist type folks with nobless oblige - or are the plucky, hard working, simple but always suffering poor rural folk.
Dems are elitist, over-educated know-it-alls who have weak, misguided social sympathies with low folks of questionable morals and are supposed to get theirs in the end.
They also don't throw those great parties where people can just have fun doing whatever they want without having to worry about some SJW the next morning getting into faces because of some stupid lack of consent mistake or erratic driving afterwards.
Stupid Dems.
I can guarantee you that's behind a lot of attitudes from the established media and glitterati style reporting that goes on in the major media outlets when it comes to Democrats and anything to do with actual governance. Journalism has been further reduced to infotainment and story-telling over the past few decades. Real life activities to keep things running smoothly just aren't that exciting and should be shunned by reporters.

they can keep them thinking in limited frames, ie: "Presidents have historically lost the house in their first term in recent decades," now if you report that piece of historical trivia ad nauseum without any more in-depth coverage as to why, the people are less likely to question it.
It fosters a just the way it's supposed to be kind of mentality and I believe from a sociological perspective, a piece of historical trivia becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Thanks for the thread DeeDeeNY.

(4,846 posts)They based it on historical trend and polling. And they were right in 2018. We will have to see if they are right this year too. But they dont have a special agenda against us, at least on this topic.
