The buildup took several weeks and will take a few weeks to leave. I don't trust Putin, but it's clearly in their interests now to de-escalate.

And this is one of those diplomacy efforts where the US President can't say things like "Russia blinked." Biden was careful yesterday, but the principle thing he said was about the gas pipeline, that if there is peace the pipeline goes through. What was left unsaid is that that pipeline would be dead if Russia attacked.

Diplomacy means letting the other side save face. Biden is a pro and is doing that.

Until they bring their troop levels back in to normal on the border, we can’t really celebrate yet.

There will be an "incident" inside Ukraine, that "justifies" Russian troops entering the country. Killing of Russian nationals, firefight breaking out at the border, internal disorder requiring outside assistance. Life is like a broken record, repeating the same few lines over and over. We really aren't all that creative at inventing new ways of life, or we would have abandoned war a long time ago.

Some of you people seem to be horrified at the notion that Biden might get a little credit for something.

so your dreams of a 'perfect' candidate whatever that might be will be dashed and a good thing too as we need to win in 24 and the incumbent advantage is huge with reelections of presidents.

demands a resolution to a complex situation within one day. Can we wait a week or two (or even a month) to see if Putin is actually serious about this? It’s not like he hasn’t lied before.

He's got Pootie hesitating.
