occurring in D.C, in the White House were scary
Will probably be posted here later on the V & M Forum.

(24,736 posts)though.
Didn't I recently read it was not from outside sources? I.e., psychosomatic?

(5,938 posts)I think the jury is still out on this until they catch the perps red handed with the glowing ray gun or antenna/sound generator or whatever they are using.

(5,938 posts)must have been aliens or ray guns right? Cmon, this doesnt even pass the smell test.
You realize they have: no witnesses that saw a parabolic or umbrella shaped antenna, no photos of suspicious gear or vehicles, no confessions of agents that came clean and copped to the dirty deed, etc. etc. A whole lot of - I had a migraine like feeling.
They do not even know if its acoustic or electromagnetic! Seriously?

(47,501 posts)I suggest you watch the episode. It was really compelling and scary.
Blues Heron
(5,938 posts)the bit about the white van parked outside the random government aide's apartment at 3:00 AM was a bit ham fisted, but entertaining. I had a headache so it was a ray gun is not really very compelling.

(5,938 posts)They cant even decide if its acoustic or electromagnetic. To sell the ray gun theory they need to come up with something more than vertigo or nausea or, yes, headaches. The burden of proof is on them. So far, crickets is all we have. No photos, confessions, witnesses, etc. nada.

(681 posts)It was absolutely chilling and disturbing. Its also heartbreaking what we have come to as human beings-killing and harming each other, exercising power without offering empathy. How can anyone protect himself against these microwaves?!?! Truly horrifying.
Blues Heron
(5,938 posts)Double layer around the temples should do it. Normal ear plugs for the low freq. sound waves should work too.

(24,736 posts)Just saw a clip.
Chilling indeed.
Humans have always been brutal to one another.
History is just never-ending war. We've gotten used to relative stability here on US land since the 1950s.
Disaffected
(4,557 posts)Sound (sub sonic or ultrasonic) and/or microwaves would be easily detectable by simple instrumentation. AFAIK, neither has been detected at the subject locations.
Psychosomatic seems the most likely explanation.
Abolishinist
(1,301 posts)It seems you are saying that such 'signals' would have been easily detected, which makes sense IF detectors were in place, but on the other hand WHY or HOW could someone know in advance that this kind of detection would have been needed in the first place, and thus have the ability to request said detection?
Disaffected
(4,557 posts)these episodes continued to happen after the sound/microwave theories were first advanced and there was ample opportunity to make such measurements. AFAIK, such measurements were actually made at least some of the locations and nothing was detected.

(2,955 posts)I have no idea what could be going on... Some kind of directed energy weapons.

(15,740 posts)What was strange/interesting was the agent who reported his vision was affected, but that the problem seemed to be with his visual processing and not actually a physical issue with his eyes.

(5,938 posts)Possibly msg in the food? Could be anything really its all so vague symptom wise. Totally generic headache nausea tinnitus etc.
meds, food, stress dehydration probably.
The guy who saw the white van in the middle of the night was a nice touch. Hes not saying it was the white van, just ..... the white van.... The brake lights, then... it left!

(18,497 posts)So many conspiracy theories involving white vans.
Which are so common you can't drive ten minutes most places without seeing at least 3.

(3,635 posts)whose experiences and symptoms sound similar even though they don't know each other. The scientists 60min inverviewed said it likely is some sort of microwave weapon, which could be used to steal data, which perhaps is what the attackers are trying to do more than injure the person which could be a side effect.
Blues Heron
(5,938 posts)it just doesnt pass the smell test. I think they just like saying the words Havana Syndrome.
I had a headache it must be a ray gun. Really?

(33,587 posts)or that it is "all in their heads". But we don't know the cause or causes. These symptoms are wide spread among the populace. And the "energy beam" theory is problematic.

(32,645 posts)... the suspicions were that somehow Russian technology was causing it. Well now that it's happening elsewhere, even in our own country, are the Russians still doing it? Or are they recruiting others to do their dirty work? This is definitely malfeasance even though the source is unexplained. Someone is deliberately doing harm and (so far) they're getting away with it.

(25,556 posts)The recorded noise sounds a lot like a dental ultrasonic cleaner when we put a moderate number of instruments inside the solution. When you turn it on, it makes that noise and there are some people cant be anywhere near it, especially people with hearing aids. I myself had to put it in a different room than it was originally in because it was too close to my operatory and was giving me a headache. We use it to clean instruments or dentures, night guards, or to vibrate temporary cement out of crowns in bridgework.

(1,527 posts)I do not see why this would be out of the question at all.
First I have a degree in electronics and have held an Amateur radio license for decades.
We know that intense electromagnetic energy can affect anything with water molecules. Do you have a microwave oven? There have been cases where people attacked their neighbors by rigging a microwave oven without a door facing people in the next apartment through the wall. And they have those microwave crowd control devices that make the people in the crowd think their skin is on fire.
And the energy does not have to be continuous. Think of flash bulb vs flash light. A short, very high intensity burst of microwave or other higher frequency energy could be just as damaging, and could last only a fraction of a second. Short duration pulses would also make it very hard to detect.
Also, having electromagnetic pulses cause something to translate it into sound is not impossible. If I have my cell phone too close to my am radio it will make a series of odd noises. Also people have had their metal fillings in their tooth actually receive radio stations near by.
Directional antennae get very small as the frequency used goes up and the same antennae used for receiving can be use for transmitting. People were using pringles cans as directional antennae for wifi snooping on their microwave signals. High power pulse transmitters could also be very small and portable, certainly smaller than a briefcase.
And microwave or higher frequency easily penetrates walls and is invisible and nearly undetectable unless you have some very sophisticated equipment looking for a pulse of a fraction of a second. And it could be set up anywhere line of sight even thousands of feet away.
A nearly undetectable way to cause your "enemy" problems. In the world of spy vs spy, I would be surprised if this did not happen.
PatSeg
(47,501 posts)That was the best response I've read so far. If such a harmful weapon is possible, you just know that there are adversaries who will develop and use it.
Blues Heron
(5,938 posts)makes about as much sense as anything.
Why would they attack random low level aides though? Did that one guy really think he was important enough to warrant foreign agents in a white van shooting rays into his Washington DC apartment?
Or was it a case of too much brown liquor before his big important trip?
prob the latter.
