Back in the 70's I was calling bullshit on Mr. Borateen.

(25,538 posts)"Trump's victory was not a triumph for Trump or his ideology. It was a gross failure of the Democratic Party. ... If you think everyone who voted for Trump is a racist or a sexist or a homophobe, you would be dead wrong. Many of those folks ... are hard-working, decent people but they are asking questions like how does it happen that I'm working longer hours for lower wages? How does it happen that almost all the new income and wealth in this country is going to the top one percent? ... There are people in this country who are hurting, and they are hurting terribly. And for years they looked to the Democratic Party, which at one time was the party of the working people, and they looked and they looked and they looked and they got nothing in return. And out of desperation, they turned to Donald Trump."
Think of the innocent white people who began leaving the Democratic Party/unions in the sixties and seventies and eighties, accelerated after Obama was elected, it's all Democrats' fault! I'm amazed anyone listens to someone so clueless and stupid.

(3,629 posts)Nixon was evil and paranoid but he understood the duties of the job. Reagan was a trained actor who did as he was told by the people who hired him to play the President, which is why he was able to keep pulling it off even when the Alzheimer's started to get to him. Bush I was one of the people whose hand was up Reagan's butt, but he couldn't pull off the fake rapport and smooth lying like Reagan. I believe it was his loss to Clinton that cemented a Republican strategy of letting a figurehead deal with the public while doing the real governance from the shadows behind him. Bush II was supposed to be an affable front man like Reagan, but he was so stupid he thought he was really running the country. And Trump, of course, was Trump, shouting the quiet part because his entire experience was informed by the fact that consequences aren't real if you just ignore them.

(7,282 posts)Eisenhower was my first Republican President. But he was just this bald headed boring personality on my tv at my age then.
along came Kennedy when I turned to the age of 10 and 11. Suddenly I'm interested in what the President of the United States is saying on my tv, even if most of what he said on my went over my head most of the time.
you sure nailed Reagan and Poppy Bush as succinctly as it ever needed to be.

TFG: "Hold my beer."
And he came after the guys who were so immersed in cutting taxes that they didn't pay attention to the warning signs before 9/11, started two endless wars in the Middle East, presided over the Great Recession, and more.
Now watch this drive.
