Team Trump has been cooking up its own social network ever since the then-president was thrown off all major platforms for his posts inciting the Capitol riotbut, even though what they came up with is just a ripoff of Twitter, it seems a year wasnt enough time to make a useable product. CNET reports that Truth Social went live on Apples App Store on Sunday night, but would-be users immediately ran into glitches. Some people who tried to create accounts were repeatedly met with a red error warning that said: Something went wrong. Please try again. Others were told that the app was simply too popular for them to join it, with a warning that read: Due to massive demand, we have placed you on our waitlist. On Sunday, Devin Nunes, the former Republican congressman and CEO of Trump Media & Technology Group, said that he hopes the new app will be fully operational by the end of March.

really put this disease "behind us" but no they, their families, and friends have chosen to be hosts
for the virus where it can live and mutate because they want to stick it to "the libs." Can't we just
put a fence around Oklahoma, the Texas panhandle, and the southern half of Kansas and send them
all there?
BTW why do the still follow TFG? One word, racism.

Sonotype runs security reports yearly on open-sourced software and there are an estimated 1.5 Billion vulnerabilities in them.
It turns out that the only ones reviewing the code are hackers, nation state actors and college academia. Worse is that most every of the open-source projects has hackers and nation state actors injecting vulnerabilities in the source code to later exploit. If vulnerabilities exist, these people don't announce it, they just exploit it.
This is how many sides get hacked. People don't want to pay for development and just lift OS code.
Spring framework was the most exploited about 4-5 years ago and there were major initiatives to clean up some of the vulnerabilities, now, instead of being the number one most vulnerable OS project, they are a moderately vulnerable one.

CrackityJones75
(2,403 posts)Opens source isnt by definition hackable. Lazy coding and lazy review/testing is the issue. That is an issue whether open source or not.
Everyday non open source app companies are hit with ransomware.
TheBlackAdder
(28,208 posts).
It is hackable by allowing hackers to exploit a vulnerability and enter your system.
They aren't cracking the system, but they are exploiting known exposures.
People using OS software are the lazy and cheap ones and they deserve what they get.

CrackityJones75
(2,403 posts)What I am saying is that a blanket statement that open source code is inherently bad or susceptible is completely wrong.
You are right that people are lazy though.
TheBlackAdder

One of the things we ask new hires to do, drop machine code in front of them and ask them to find the problem.
Most programmers only know how to develop using an interactive development tool.
At 3AM, sometimes you need to read raw dumps.

What I find surprising with the new lot of 'programmers' is that they only know how to build code with Interactive tools. They can't read the compiled/assembled code at all. Many just drag and drop, not knowing what widgets they are doing actually performs. Then, without their tools, they are helpless.

(2,403 posts)totally agree.
For an old scripter it is mindboggling. I prefer to have control over each line of my code.

Trump sets up a new social network. Users have to buy the app from the Apple App Store for $4.99. Then there are subscription fees.
Truth Social was announced with great fanfare to launch on Presidents Day (get it?) and the app became available the night before. Unsurprisingly. the thing doesn't work and the CEO of Trump's tech company says he "hopes" the thing will work in the nest 4-5 weeks.
Trump doesn't know anything about technology. Hell, Trump doesn't know anything. Nunes is just as clueless. Only the best people, my ass.
I'll bet the techs Trump & Nunes hired are bottom of the barrel, like the Cyber Ninjas. Add Truth Social to the long list of Trump failures.
ETA: IMPORTANT NOTE
I was incorrect about the cost of the app. It's free, not $4.99. I went to the Apple App Store and sure enough, it's free. I still didn't download it.

(15,334 posts)According to Donnie Dipshit, it's not working because it's sooooo popular that too many people are overloading the site.
Remember, the most important thing to Retrumplicans is to never admit defeat, or failure. The goal is to make as much grift as possible, then settle for a small portions of what you've stolen. Then, you don't even pay the settlement.

(32,688 posts)In an initial statement about his platform, Trump said Truth Social will have no "shadow-banning, throttling, demonetizing, or messing with algorithms for political manipulation, which can be read as a reference to the de-platforming that has happened to many alt-right figures on mainstream social media sites over the years. We will not silence our fellow citizens simply because they might be wrongor worse, because we think that Americans cant handle the truth, Trump said. Notably, though, the site's terms of service says your account can be suspended if you make fun of the platform.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/devin-nunes-ted-yoho-trump_us_58dd24b8e4b05eae031dad44
When MSNBC host Craig Melvin asked Rep. Ted Yoho (R-Fla.) if it was appropriate for Nunes, the House Intelligence Committee chairman, to meet with a source on White House grounds the day before announcing he had reason to believe the Trump team was subject to incidental surveillance, Yoho insisted it was fine because Nunes works for the president.
Youve got to keep in mind who he works for, Yoho said. He works for the president. He answers to the president.
