Segment with Dolores Umbridge (crazy cat lady) as High Inquisitor in class telling students they will be following a carefully structured ministry-approved course of defense magic.
Seems maybe Republicans got their idea to control education from the movie.

(82,849 posts)James and Oliver Phelps (who played George and Fred, the Weasley twins) talk about Imelda Staunton (Umbridge). Off camera, she's a sweet, funny, engaging person. But when they call "Action," she turned into this monster of a character. The Phelpses were equal parts stunned and repelled by the transformation.

(66,388 posts)And I barely even remember reading the first two. My impression is that she was not a very good writer. Maybe she got better with the later ones, and writers do improve over time. Still I don't remember any bigotry other than epithet "mudblood".

The black Minister of Magic's last name is "Shacklebolt."
The only Irish character loves setting off bombs...
There were problems w/ Nagini in the second "Fantastic Creatures" movie that I read about, but I never saw it.
I think there was something w/ the evil werewolf character (Not Lupin) but I don't remember what it was.

(5,528 posts)Anti-vaxxers have started to refer to themselves as "purebloods"
I made one howling mad on line when I pointed this out. I asked him if he understood that it was an allegory for the Nazi Aryan race purity bullshit. I gave him the benefit of the doubt that he was just dense rather than purposely evil. He didn't like that.
