From Task and Purpose:
Moscow orders Russian troops into Ukraine
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday ordered his forces to deploy to two separatist areas of Ukraine as a peacekeeping measure following a weekslong effort to mass hundreds of thousands of soldiers along Ukraines borders.
According to The Washington Post, Russian troops are now moving into both the Donetsk Peoples Republic and the Luhansk Peoples Republic after Moscow recognized their independence. Despite the Kremlins insistence that its forces were on a peacekeeping mission, the troop movements into Ukraines borders come after weeks of speculation and concern over a pending invasion.
Russia is invading Ukraine right now, tweeted Michael McFaul, a former U.S. ambassador to Russia.

(3,003 posts)It's pretty blatant what Russia is planning to do, but well... It has enough of a veneer to deter a response.

(3,003 posts)But sanctions against Russia are a separate thing, and will only be enforced if they 'further invade'.

"should Russia further invade"
Hilarious, really. Russia launched their invasion, and our response is to... Sanction the territories they invaded. We claimed that we could sanction Russia if they invaded Ukraine, and now that they have... Well, by technicality, the only nation getting sanctioned is Ukraine.

(3,282 posts)Russia moved into Ukraine. I wouldn't read that as the US dating they aren't going to sanction Russia for this.

Fairly common approach in Europe over the centuries.

And of course, towards the end of his reply, he again talks about Hillary's emails!
What did Hillary's emails have to do with the purpose of his meeting with Putin??
His dishonesty & ignorance is undeniable. A total embarrassment for our country and our people.
The fact that he even speaks her name in this speech before Putin, says everything about Putin's hands in Election 2016.
She was his only threat to where we are today. And she was the one he needed Trump to ruin in the public eye.
"Russia if you're listening" was the early tell. Sec Clinton knew what was about to be laid at her feet. She was running her campaign against Vladimer Putin from that point on.
Still breaks my heart.
