The Romney high command did a Thursday afternoon conference call with some of their biggest donors and bundlers from around the country, urging them to push hard for the next week to bring in more dough.
According to a source familiar with the call, Romney national finance chair Spencer Zwick and pollster Neil Newhouse gave the group a briefing on the state of the race and pressed them to raise more more more in the next week.
Newhouse told the group that the battleground states are within 2-3 points in their data and they need more money for additional last-minute television ads, direct mail, and other forms of voter contact.

(31,849 posts)See you seem to think this "Push hard to bring in more money" plea is to bring in more money for the campaign thing ... Nope.
This is a "Push hard to bring in more money (so that we have more to divvy up after the election)" investment scheme thing. That is the romney business model practiced at bain.

(2,800 posts)The media is already saturated with campaign advertising and most people aren't paying any attention to it any more. This is especially true where they need help the most, in the battleground states.
I bet that the amount of money you have to spend to change a voter's mind is 100 times what it was in early August, because most have already made up their minds and the rest aren't paying nearly as much attention to the advertising, they're mostly sick of it.
Frankly, the only ones paying that much attention are the poltical junkies, like me. And my mind was made up on Wednesday after the presidential election in 2008.

Info on the Macau investigation:
"When Sheldon Adelson, the casino magnate, needed something done in China, he often turned to his companys chief Beijing representative, a mysterious businessman named Yang Saixin.

But today, Mr. Yang, along with tens of millions of dollars in payments the Sands made through him in China, is a focus of a wide-ranging federal investigation into potential bribery of foreign officials and other matters in China and Macau, according to people with direct knowledge of the inquiries."

Here is the info on the moneylaundering in the U.S.:
"The WSJ wrote that the U.S. Attorneys office in Las Vegas is looking into whether Sands and its executives violated U.S. anti-money laundering laws by failing to report suspicious activity by two big-spending gamblers.
The investigation involves Zhenli Ye Gon (who has been indicted on counts of trafficking methamphetamine ingredients) and Ausaf Umar Siddiqui, (a former executive of Frys Electronics who went to jail on bribe charges) who wired tens of millions of dollars to the Sands Venetian casino in Las Vegas during the mid-2000s.
According to the WSJ, the government is investigating whether the Sands ignored the wire transfers or failed to have the right systems in place to flag sketchy activity. Sands chief Sheldon Adelson is not under investigation. Sands spokesman Ron Reese did not comment on the current allegations but did tell the Journal: The company believes it has acted properly and has not committed any wrongdoing."

It is little wonder Adelson will give whatever he thinks it takes to put Romney in the White House so the current investigations will go away. Millions is pocket change if it saves his company which makes billions.

(31,706 posts)With Adelson and Wynn probably chipping in at least $100 mil between the two of 'em, the Kochs and the many $50k a plate Boca Raton-style "private" fundraisers and Willard's tight on cash?
Remember, Halperin carries a lot of right wing water and has put out some pretty ugly articles about Willard the last few days...while I generally dismiss his opinions as he once said that "Drudge rules his world" but you can be sure he has very solid sources on this one.
Here's hoping these goons continue to bleed money and lose big on November 6th!! If not, this country is in very, very serious trouble...
