2. How terrible for these parents!

You can imagine if American mothers and fathers were facing this. I wonder how brave or resolute we'd be in the face of unnerving danger? Maybe this is what years of continued threats produces: determination to stand firm and push ahead no matter what. Very impressive. Also heartbreaking.

4. Much less dramatic but terrifying to me.

Just after 9/11, my children were in a downtown DC daycare. We got a notice from the Director asking us to pack a pillowcase with pictures of parents, siblings, pets and other things that your children like along with toys and other comfort items.

The fear was that there may be occasional lockdowns or the possibility that parents may not be able to get to their children. The Director wanted to make sure that there were some comfort items for the children that the staff could use to keep them calm if they could not get home.

My wife and I were terrified, the thought of our children spending the night at school, even with people who cared for them every day and were just amazing people was a shock to us. I can only imagine how far past that the parents in the Ukraine must feel.

I can’t believe any freedom loving parents/American is ok with this yet we are seeing people like Trump coming out saying “this is genius” and that monumental Duche Pompeo is singing Putin’s praises. What has become of our great country. How can we not be on the side of Democracy and Freedom. What the fuck.
