A few years age while driving along the NJ state parkway my wife and I saw 2 NJ state troopers in both northbound lanes, driving about 20 miles per hour. Traffic behind them was backed up for about 4 miles. We had no idea why they were doing this but it would be an easy way to put the screws to the MAGATs convoy.
With simple texting and coordination teams of drivers could position themselves and exits and egresses along the interstate. Get ahead of the convoy, drive at a snail's pace and take the next exit. The next set of drivers, having received notification that the previous drivers are nearing their exit, would enter the interstate, drive slowly to the next exit ... you get the picture.
Participants would have to be fearless. The possibility of trucker road rage could be a reality along with some sort of support from law enforcement, seeing as how many of them would love to work for the Gazpacho.
So ... anyone who knows some true patriotic drives, truckers with big rigs being key, float this crazy idea to them.
Peace out,

Lots of other police departments do the same thing to create open space to facilitate clearing an incident without completely shutting down the roadway.
Not at all unusual

And "Auction starts at #250K"? Yeah, this has "grassroots" and "working class" written all over it.

(86,802 posts)Creative ways to mess with them. There is a massive arctic air mass, some may have noticed, that will be a thorn in their side and if there is any measure of snow along the way, that could be helpful in deterring them too.
The thing about the extreme cold and diesel trucks is that they need a different grade of fuel, less paraffin, because it turns into jello at a not so cold temp known as #1 diesel. You can use the "regular" #2 kind but will need an additive to keep it from gelling . That stuff runs out quickly in a prolonged cold spell, been froze up in the middle of Wyoming before, and other problems accrue. Moisture anywhere in the air braking system will cause the brakes to lock up and not let the vehicle roll. And then there's the fuel crossover lines that run fuel from one tank to the other which has a tendency to freeze up too, radiator water also freezes at those temps, metal things tend to break easily.
So there are all kinds of problems that can keep quite a few trucks from making the whole trip as that cold air mass will be slow rolling along with them the whole way.

(11,371 posts)And move down the road. This kind of 'protest' represents a rather prohibitive 'out of pocket' for a lot of owner operaters. Especially with an open ended agenda of - weeks, possibly longer? I just don't see it for a lot of the small guys. Canada saw a (relative) few actual 18 wheelers - and a whole lot of 'lookit me' 4 wheel flag wavers.

(86,802 posts)What I picture it turning out to be. If the rig's not rolling with a full trailer, it's $$ going out of your pocket. You have to keep working to actually make any money, you're right, mist o/o truckers can't afford more than an afternoon of participation. There are federal laws that can create the ugliest nightmare for them so I don't see a lot of those getting involved. Fuel prices are high, a rig only gets something like 8-10mpg so that's a deterrent and not all trucks are licensed to run in all states so that's a limiting factor.
I don't see this gaining any steam after they get east of the Mississippi, if they get that far.

(1,896 posts)Police cars tend to be sturdy and practical things that can keep up with the ordinary passenger vehicle, but sometimes, police departments require a specific vehicle for niche jobs. In Germany, for instance, the existence of the Autobahn requires cops to employ the services of Porsche 911 sports cars to hunt down speeders, and in Wales, the rugged terrain has forced the police departments there to get behind the wheels of Ford Ranger Raptors to track sheep thieves and those who take the Queen's name in vain. In the US, we have our own set of unique challenges including the extremely dangerous Florida man. To protect innocent bystanders from Florida man's bad road manners, Tennessee Highway Patrol and Florida Highway Patrol (FHP)are using semi trucks, and they look badass.

On the road yesterday a semi pulled up from about 40 to highway speed almost without a sound (my windows were down). It was two lanes over and a few semi-lengths back at last look, then suddenly it was past my door. I snapped for a look, thinking it must have been an electric, but the size of the intake said no. There weren't any markings on it so I wondered who would have such a cool truck, and found this.
