(16,939 posts)If you look at post #21 (thanks, Kali!!!!!!) and go to the 'full' presentation at the recommended time mark, he actually reads some segments from the 'recommended' book (well, 'recommended' by the 'Mom's For Liberty' - SICK!!!!!) gang.
And what a brilliant 'argument-statement!' NO bullshit, just FACTS backed up by FACTS!!!! I'm thinking that the MFL's minds were in a serious 'spin-cycle' by the time he was done!
I'm SO impressed to see and hear something like this from a district in Tennessee. After SO many things that we read and hear coming out of that state, I will admit that I've tended to 'generalize' it in a 'not-nice' way.
We need to support the 'good ones' and help all of us make a better place in which to live!!!!
OH, WAIT!!!!!!!
I see what they're doing!!!!!!!!
THEY think they're POPULAR!!!!!
THEY saw some guys wearing 'MILF' t-shirts and thought that they had just shortened the name of their own group!!!!!!!

(16,129 posts)and that he may have convinced some to vote that way.
Time to start showing that a lot of these "citizen groups" aren't what they claim to be at all.

(28,504 posts)That word alone should have made the entire "text book" unworthy of endorsement. My guess is the Moms for Liberty haven't even read it because that is right up there with the N word. But then again, they're ignorant and proud, and proud to share their ignorance. Kudos on this school board!

(6,557 posts)"The John Birch Society was the grassroots network of the American anti-Communist crusade of the '50s, '60s and '70s. Society members, called "Birchers," saw a constant struggle against Communist infiltration, and it was no coincidence that the group was founded the year after the death of commie witch-hunt king Senator Joseph McCarthy. The John Birch Society -- which, by the way, still exists -- embraced and propagated conspiracy theories long before the internet even existed, uniting like-minded people in a far-right community through pamphlets, radio shows and boycotts. Though lampooned by mainstream culture as a bunch of red-fearing kooks, the John Birch Society had an ambiguous significance: Was this the crazy fringe of American conservatism, or the purest form of it?"

Perhaps go to the school board website. I think it was on 2-21-22 IIRC.
the part that is from the shortened clip in OP starts at about 3 hours, 38 minutes

(823 posts)I applaud this Board member for his due diligence and his just below the surface anger at the group trying to stop this 2.5 year long process to adopt their chosen curriculum. Watching him set up the audience with fact after fact about the process and who supports it district wide, he reads from this horrendous "text book" to the shame of many in the room (I hope) because they did not do their own research on the group trying to circumvent the adoption process. If he is not a lawyer he missed his calling. The adage "never ask a question you don't know the answer to" was very evident in his presentation. This was a remarkable, calm, concise takedown of this group "Mothers for Freedom" that left them looking stupid, ridiculous and extremely racist. Beautiful to watch.

(2,220 posts)They are used to lying and when we explain it we lose their stupid audience. This man, Eric Welch, is now a hero of mine and he did what needed to be done by every member of every school board, if they care about education. Research.
I am tired of pundits from the right spewing lies and dodging when it doesn't stick. I am thinking we call their anti-CRT, the CRL Conservative Racist Lie. It is simple, true and then they have to weasel out of it.
Remember when John Stewart told Crossfire they where hurting America? Warning, this video shows Tucker's face and should not be watched when you are eating.
Our side saw this with clarity. At the top, their side saw it as confirmation. Since then they have been absolute in their efforts to hurt America. This CRT nonsense is a prime example of blatant racism hiding in plain sight as a whistle for racist dogs to come out of the woodwork to attack reason and compassion.
