However the trend has been for the controlling party to lose seats in the midterm maybe this is a reflection of that trend

That should be obvious by now. We didn't get Trump and the steady stream of lunatic congress members by accident. Americans voted for it. And turned around in 2020 and did it again. In record numbers.

Citizens willingly ingesting animal de-wormer, risking their own kids lives because hey, a live healthy kid is apparently a infringement on ones freedom, storming school board meetings over something that's not even being taught, hold up in Dallas waiting for the resurrection of JFK because suddenly a Kennedy, not just any Kennedy but THE Kennedy in this new life is going to go all wingnut and endorse Trump, convinced democrats are sex trafficking kids and drinking their blood out of a DC pizza place, burning books, storming the US capital and live posting all over social media then wondering why they got arrested and now their vaca plans are disrupted, thinks it's ok to hold rallies armed to the teeth right after a school shooting, are still waiting on all those coal jobs to come back, who continually elected and support those who will go directly against their own best interest, and could see your daughter being beat and abducted and would just keep driving because hey, you or yours is not their problem. And that's just a short list. SO yeah, Americans CAN be that stupid.
