An country with 44 million people and a centuries-old history and culture: "A great piece of land."

https://www.newsweek.com/trump-praise-putin-smart-war-ukraine-invasion-1682182

That is what that pestilent piece of fucking shit called Ukraine yesterday.

Said Putin was "smart" and took it, "a great piece of land."

Not a nation or a country. No words of support or solidarity to its people.

It was just "a great piece of land."

Like it was one of his shitty little golf courses.

They're bombing my grandparents' hometown today. I was there, three years ago. As corny as it sounds, I could really feel their presence there. It was a truly incredible moment where I felt such a connection with a place.

This is more than "a great piece of land." This is a beloved home for millions of people, and a place of ancestral pride for millions more such as myself.

And one day, Donald Trump will be sitting alongside Vladimir Putin, Josef Stalin and Adolph Hitler.

And it will be very, very, very hot.

Tommy, I am in tears for you, your relatives, and for the Ukrainian people. What's happening is monstrous.

My great-grandfather studied Russian Orthodox theology in Kyiv before becoming a priest and theology professor in Estonia. It is said to be a very beautiful city. I believe he was ethnically Russian, but a DNA test showed I have Ukrainian ancestry too - I'm mostly Estonian and Finnish.

But even if I didn't have a drop of Ukrainian DNA, I would still be sickened by this sociopath's brutal invasion of an independent nation that was of no threat to Russia.

Who immigrated to the US in the 1920's.

She has many ties to the Ukrainian- American community here in the US.

She is heartbroken and very rattled last night and today.

I am trying to support her as much as I can, but not much I can say.
It is a very grim situation.
