At the beginning of WWII, Japanese Americans were rounded up and put in detention camps. In hindsight, we know this was a terrible mistake (partially based on racism). Virtually all Japanese Americans were horrified by the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and they were as patriotic as all other Americans. In fact, an American Japanese army infantry regiment became the most decorated American regiment in WWII.
However, Republicans who side with Putin, (including TFG), are another story. They have openly proclaimed their approval and backing of Putin and his aggression. And since Putin is our enemy, doesn't this makes them traitors?
Should Republicans who openly side with Putin be rounded up and detained, as a danger to our democracy? I'm not really sure.
What do you think?

(9,019 posts)maybe we should shut down Fox, Newsmax, and OAN. Not to make them comply with "proper thought" but to stop them from providing aid and comfort to the enemy.

Here's a clue, if you have to ask if mass detentions are a good idea, THEY AREN'T.
So I'm not sure what your point was, other than promoting mass detentions by "just asking questions".

(1,902 posts)Let me put this simply. Despite the fact that nazis were/are people - there is no moral equivalency.
I'm not hell bent on taking the votes away from people I disagree with. I'm not attacking people
based on their sexual preferences. People are fallible but there is an objective right and a wrong.
Slavery is wrong - white supremacy is wrong - attacking the parents of trans kids is wrong - subjugation
of women is wrong. Enough of this false equivalency. If I have to resort to martial means to save
my children and I from these motherfuckers - I'll do it - without apology, and never a look back.
You can sit back and wring your hands.

For everyone who is outraged and "shocked" about the idea of detaining people, exactly what do you think would happen if only black people supported Putin?

(3,417 posts)The rise to power of SO MANY anti-democratic fascists in American government at all levels required the support of half of the American people.
Easily manipulated by RW media, they chose a narrative of grievance and tribalism. Blame the leaders, but over SEVENTY MILLION AMERICANS either believe it all or don't give a damn.
The politicians are the tip of the spear. They are enabled by a significant number of US.
