Ukraine has asked Apple's chief executive, Tim Cook, to cut Russia off from the App Store and Apple

products.

Mykhailo Federov, the country’s vice prime minister and the minister of digital transformation, has published the letter he sent on Friday, appealing for Cook to bolster the impact of government-level sanctions.

This should be demanded by the US gov, This should be what all US corporations should be doing right now, end all services to Russia. We cannot support a country that is trying to destroy its neighbor.

So no, I don't expect many capitalists to get behind any sort of boycott, with the exception of those connected to the arts. Maybe.

...might figure into this too. I believe Russia has made veiled threats about this before. Giving that, of course, Apple should have already starting disentangling itself from Russia and getting the hell out of there.

that's Internet-connected in Russia or Kazakhstan suddenly needs an update?

"Oh, crap! The updated triple-reformatted your hard drives. Sorry, 100101100101001 + 1101110111 doesn't equal 1011100001. We've fired the contraktor that programmed that error. Our bad. We expect to restore your data in year 0000100000000101. Until then, we've installed the Hamster Dance Song on your computer with software that plays it. Nonstop. 34. Russia restricts Facebook access since it is fact-checking and labelling state-controlled media

Feb 2022
Russia had partially restricted Facebook access after social media giant Meta refused to stop labelling and fact-checking state-controlled media organisations.

Russian authorities ordered Facebook’s parent company Meta to allow RIA Novosti news agency, Zvezda TV channel and Lenta.ru and Gazeta.ru news websites to publish on Facebook unrestricted, Meta’s VP Global Affairs and former Deputy Prime Minister Sir Nick Clegg in a statement.

Vladimir Putin has waged a misinformation campaign to justify his invasion of Ukraine, falsely claiming he was invading to protect pro-Moscow separatists from rights abuses, of which there is no evidence. The four state-controlled media organisations have played a key role in the efforts.

Sir Nick said on Friday: “Yesterday, Russian authorities ordered us to stop the independent fact-checking and labelling of content posted on Facebook by four Russian state-controlled media organisations.

“We refused. As a result, they have announced they will be restricting use of our services.

“Ordinary Russians are using our apps to express themselves and organise for action. We want them to continue to make their voices heard, share what’s happening, and organise through Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger.”

Early on Saturday, the third day of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Meta applied further restrictions by prohibiting the state-controlled media from running advertisements or monetising their content anywhere in the world.
