Putin has blasted Russia back into the Dark Ages on the International Stage

No matter what occurs in Ukraine

from now on, Russia is a pariah.

All the work that has been done by Russia to elevate itself on the international stage has been destroyed.

No more international conferences. No more collegial treatment from other world leaders.

He is Hitler. Russia never to be taken seriously again in our lifetimes.

Never understood why others accepted them as legitimate on the world stage.

He thought it would be shock and awe for the entire world.
Instead most people are angry.

5. Maybe the bad PR doesn't bother Putin at all.

He gets Ukraine and that is all he cares about.
Time will tell on this.

I wonder if he thought the world would buy his lies?

Americans are gullible and buy the Russian talking points as spouted by Trump and the GOP.

But the world is not buying Putin's lies about the invasion.

6. Even those nations with close ties like Khazakhstan turned down Putin's overtures to join in

I think Vlad the Impaler over-played his hand in ways that will inspire other nation states he has subjugated to his will, e.g., Georgia will rise up against his despotic bullshit. Of course, he has his little lapdog in Belorussia towing Putin's line but the Belorussian citizens who are for an independent state may be stirred to action too. We will have to see how this all plays out but it will not end well for the Moscow mobster.

But for right now, it is not going the way Putin planned.
Not at all.

But, sadly, there is so much more than international prestige on the line here, beginning with human lives.

Any hope of indulging in schadenfreude must await an outcome that minimizes human suffering.
