(CNN) - Harry Reid, the Senate majority leader, was hospitalized in Nevada Friday following an accident in his motorcade, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Sources close to the top Democrat said Reid, 72, appeared to fine after the accident, which occurred as his caravan of four vehicles was traveling northbound on Interstate 15.

The sources said Reid never lost consciousness, and was being evaluated at the hospital out of caution.
