be foolish for China to throw it's lot in with Putin. It has a much larger trade relationship with Ukraine, and when you add in all the countries backing Ukraine, there is no contest.

They started ordering more in December and continued to ratchet up their orders. It may not be legal, but the West needs to cut off the ability of Russian ships to leave port and make deliveries. After all, Putin’s war is not legal either.

I don't think China gives more than half a hoot about Russia beyond any trade between the two countries. If anything, Chinese leaders are probably hoping this war will diminish Russia's prestige. They're willing to let Russia be its own worst enemy.

They aren't going to let the security council raise a hand against an armed invasion for nationalist interests. That would come back to hurt them later.

And fwiw, the people of china don't rule china. Their thoughts are comforting, but immaterial to china's foreign policy.

Hungary was one of the first nations to join NATO when the USSR collapsed and of course is on Putin's list of nations to be brought into his Russian empire. It borders Ukraine to the east.

I read that Germany is sending troops to Slovakia to its east to form part of a new NATO battle group there. Slovakia is a NATO nation sandwiched between Hungary and Russia.

I'm inclined to guess that protecting Hungary's sovereignty (and with it his own power) and avoiding being forced into war are sincere goals for Orban. Right now he's reportedly getting a lot of blowback in his own country for being too friendly with Putin.

If Vlad the genius miscalculated and the Russian people have had about enough of him for various reasons, he may be in danger of joining Mussolini, Saddam, Ceausescu, etc. If that were to happen, of course our favourite con man, liar and a cheat would immediately spin it to show of course how he’s never wrong about the stupid move calling Vlad a genius. He’s such a dumb fuck, not realizing how the whole world ( except for MAGA morons of course) is laughing AT him.
