GOP Rep. Adam Kinzinger calls for U.S.-enforced no-fly zone over Ukraine

Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) called for the U.S. to declare a no-fly zone over Ukraine to give the country's military a "fair fight" against invading Russian forces.

"The fate of #Ukraine is being decided tonight, but also the fate of the west. Declare a #NoFlyZone over Ukraine at the invitation of their sovereign govt," Kinzinger tweeted on Friday.

In addition to serving in Congress, Kinzinger is a lieutenant colonel in the Air National Guard.

According to Politico, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has asked NATO to "close the skies," but as of Friday the alliance remained unwilling to take the risk.

Putin wouldn't seriously risk nuclear war to have Ukraine would he? Hitler 2.0 must be stopped.

What happens when Russia tests us? Do we shoot down MIG's, and start WW3?

If we can't enforce it, it's pointless.

If we did too, that would signal a direct confrontation between the US and Russia.

I listened to a panel last night where the consensus was enacting a no-fly zone over Ukraine would be considered an act of war.

We're caught between a rock and hard place wanting to support the Ukrainians and preventing a world conflagration if this thing gets out of hand.

No easy choices.

I don't entirely disagree, but he's pretty high-profile to publicly declare that judgment, not to mention the risk of escalation to defcon, and the actual president may have very valid intel and judgment on the subject. Kinzinger is a patriot, but sometimes I find him a little cocky and a bit devious.

Russia is attacking all of our allies, including NATO partners like Japan. They have given credible threats to all non NATO allies and NATO allies -and made good on many of them. If nuclear war is coming, we aren't going to stop it by continually being afraid to defend against the largest land invasion in Europe since world war two.
