For the relatively small numbers of overt protesters in Russia it is safe to assume they represent many more. For the intelligence chief to start to contradict Putin, even as he back away when challenged, speaks volumes. For all the reports of an increasingly isolated and increasingly paranoid Putin, it is becoming a bit less opaque that his grip on power may be degrading.
